Presidential Iqbal Awards
Presidential Iqbal Award is a literary award which is presented by Iqbal Academy Pakistan with the approval of the President of Pakistan. The award is conferred for the best books written on national poet-philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s life and ideology in national and foreign languages. History Presidential Iqbal Award was started in 1981 under a presidential order by then president of Pakistan Zia-ul-Haq. Later, it was reconstituted by the president Arif Alvi in 2019. Iqbaliat
This is a selective list of scholarly works related to Islamic philosopher and poet Muhammad Iqbal. Number of works The literature on Iqbal is extensive : critic Rauf Parekh, basing himself on the works of Prof Dr Haroonur Rasheed Tabassum, talks of at least 300 books while, when it comes to articles, a team from the KULeuven has referenced 2,500 articles, keeping in mind that the bibliography stopped at 1998 and that they only concern items in Latin script (thus not Urdu and other Oriental languages where publications on Iqbal are more numerous.) In 2023, Dr Rafiuddin Hashmi compiled a descriptive bibliography of works (books, articles, special issues of magazines, etc) on Iqbal’s life and works in the Urdu language, ''Kitabiyaat-e-Iqbal'', ending up with some 6,000 items listed. Waheed Qureshi
Waheed Qureshi (Urdu: وحید قریشی) (14 February 1925 – 17 October 2009) was a Pakistani noted linguist, literary critic, writer, researcher, educationalist and scholar of Urdu literature and oriental languages. Waheed Qureshi was one of the foremost scholars who helped shape the mood and colour of research on oriental languages and literature. Education Born as Abdul Waheed on 14 February 1925 in Mianwali (now in Pakistan), Dr Waheed Qureshi got his early education in Lahore. He obtained honours degree in Persian in 1944, master's degree in Persian in 1946 and a master's degree in History in 1950 from Government College, Lahore. From 1947 to 1950, he remained ''Alfred Patiala Research Scholar'' at the University of Punjab, Lahore. Pakistanis (, ) are the citizens and nationals of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Pakistan is the fifth-most populous country, with a population of over 241.5 million, having the second-largest Muslim population as of 2023. As much as 85-90% of the population follows Sunni Islam. Ghaus Bakhsh Sabir
Ghaus Bakhsh Sabir (1938 - 2015) was a Pakistani scholar, author, playwright, and poet. He was associated with Radio Pakistan, Pakistan Television, National Language Authority, and Pakistan Academy of Letters. Biography Sabir was born on 29 March 1938 in village ''Kach Walhari'', Sibi District, Balochistan, British India. He was a self-learned person with a strong passion for book-reading. His poem "Jee Nai Qalam" made him popular in the literary circle of Balochistan. He started getting published in the weekly "Balochi" magazine from Karachi. Muhammad Ikram Chughtai
Muhammad Ikram Chughtai (22 October 1941 – 7 January 2023), also written as M. Ikram Chughtai or Ikram Chagatai, was a Pakistani researcher, translator, historian, and biographer. He conducted research on Muhammad Husain Azad and Muhammad Asad and published several rare and previously unpublished documents, contributing to Urdu research. His work in Iqbal Studies is frequently referenced in academic literature. His research methodologies and findings have been cited in Urdu, English, and other languages. Rafiuddin Hashmi
Rafiuddin Hashmi (; 9 February 1940 – 25 January 2024) was a Pakistani Iqbalist, researcher and travel writer. He was a professor in the Department of Iqbaliat, Oriental College, Lahore and University of the Punjab. Hashmi authored books on Muhammad Iqbal, as well as the Urdu language and literature. Early life and education Rafiuddin Hashmi was born on 9 February 1940 in Masriyal, District Chakwal. In 1963, he did his BA in a private capacity and in 1966 he passed the MA Urdu examination from Oriental College Lahore. In 1981, he received his Ph.D. degree from Punjab University by writing a thesis on the subject of research and explanatory study of Iqbal's works. Fateh Muhammad Malik
Fateh Mohammad Malik, ( ALA-LC: born 1936) is a Pakistani literary critic, linguist and a scholar. He has authored several books including an essay "Iqbal Inspired Humour: A Note on Parodies by Selected Urdu Poets" published in ''Of Clowns and Gods, Brahmans and Babus - Humour in South Asian Literatures''. Iqbal had a key influence on him and he wrote at least six books on him including his book ''Iqbal's reconstruction of Muslim political thought'' published by University of Leicester, England.
