Château-Salins (; , from 1941 to 1944 ''Salzburgen'') is a Communes of France, commune in the Moselle (department), Moselle Departments of France, department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. Until 2015, Château-Salins was a Subprefectures in France, subprefecture of the Moselle department. History The town is relatively recent. The territory on which the castle, and later the town, was built was part of the domains of the Prince-Bishopric of Metz, bishopric of Metz. Legend has it that pilgrims on their way to Saint-Nicolas-de-Port discovered a salt spring. Around 1340, the regent Elisabeth of Austria, widow of Duke Ferry IV, had a castle built to protect the exploitation of this spring. To control the ducal building, Bishop Adhemar of Le Puy, Adhémar de Monteil also had a fortress built, which he named Beaurepaire, at some distance from there. Valenciennes Football Club (; commonly known as Valenciennes, VA or VAFC) is a French professional football club based in Valenciennes. The club was founded in 1914 and currently play in Championnat National, the third tier of French football. Valenciennes plays its home matches at the recently built Stade du Hainaut located within the city. Valenciennes was founded under the name Union Sportive de Valenciennes Anzin (USVA).
