Origin is an American technical death metal band from Topeka, Kansas, founded in 1990 under the monikers Necrotomy and Thee Abomination. They have been recognized by music critics and metal fans alike for combining a harsh sound with a high level of technical skill. Origin's music is characterized by almost exclusive use of several specific, difficult playing techniques; blast beats, multiple death growled vocals, and arpeggios and sweep picking on both the guitars and the bass guitar. Their songs often have uneven, shifting time signatures. 2008 saw the band breakthrough in the United States with the release of their fourth studio album, ''Antithesis'', which peaked at #21 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. Dying Fetus is an American death metal band from Greater Upper Marlboro, Maryland, formed in 1991. Various lineup changes throughout the years have left John Gallagher as the sole remaining original member, as well as the band's driving force. According to Gallagher, the band name was chosen while the members were young and was intended to be offensive. To date, Dying Fetus has released nine studio albums. Vader is a Polish death metal band from Olsztyn. Formed in 1983, the group was founded by then-bassist Piotr Wiwczarek, Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek and guitarist Zbigniew "Vika" Wróblewski. ''Origin'' is the debut studio album by American death metal band Origin. The album has a rawer and less technically proficient sound compared to their more technical later albums. Oppressor is a technical death metal band from Chicago, Illinois, which formed in 1991 and disbanded in 1999. They released three albums. Three of the band's members went on to form alternative metal band Soil. History Oppressor was started in May 1991 by Tim King and Adam Zadel. A month later, they found another guitarist, Jim Stopper, and a drummer, Tom Schofield. They recorded their first demo, ''World Abomination'', in 1991. A second demo, ''As Blood Flows'', recorded in 1992, got them a record deal with Red Light Records, who released their first full-length album, '' Solstice of Oppression'', in 1994. Cryptopsy is a Canadian technical death metal band from Montreal, formed in 1988. History Pre-Cryptopsy days (1988–1992) Canadian death/thrash metal band Necrosis was formed in April 1988 by drummer Mike Atkin, guitarist Steve Thibault and vocalist Dan "Lord Worm" Greening, initially under the name Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
