Máximo Santa Cruz
Máximo Augusto Santa Cruz Anchissi (born in 1968) is a Guatemalan diplomat and politician. He was the vice presidential nominee in the 2023 Guatemalan general election, 2023 election running alongside presidential nominee Edmond Mulet. Biography Santa Cruz was appointed as the Guatemalan Consul General in Miami, Florida in 1996. He later became involved in national politics and was appointed as private cecretary to Vice President of Guatemala, Vice President Eduardo Stein from 2004 to 2008. Stein appointed Santa Cruz as National Executive Director for Guatemala in the Trifinio Plan in 2006. Santa Cruz was an unsuccessful candidate for deputy for the National Development Action (ADN) party in the 2011 Guatemalan general election, 2011 general election. 2023 Guatemalan General Election
General elections were held in Guatemala on 25 June 2023 to elect the president and vice president, all 160 seats of the Congress, all 20 members of the Central American Parliament, and mayors and councils for all 340 municipalities in the country. Incumbent president Alejandro Giammattei was constitutionally prohibited from running for a second four-year term. As no presidential candidate obtained over 50% of the vote, a second round was scheduled between the top two finishers on 20 August. The official count of the general election by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal indicated that Sandra Torres from National Unity of Hope and Bernardo Arévalo from Semilla would contest the second round. Edmond Mulet
Edmond Auguste Mulet Lesieur (born 13 March 1951) is a Guatemalan diplomat, lawyer and notary public. He was appointed Head of the independent three-member panel to lead the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)-United Nations Joint Investigative Mechanism on 27 April 2017. Mulet served as the last Chief of Staff to former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Previously, he was Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations at the United Nations. He was appointed to this position on 2 June 2011. Dr. Eduardo Stein Barillas (born 20 October 1946) is a Guatemalan diplomat who served as the Vice President of Guatemala from 14 January 2004 to 14 January 2008, serving a concurrent four-year mandate with President Óscar Berger. He is currently the Joint Special Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration for Venezuelan refugees and migrants. Prior to his election, he held a number of positions with the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Organization of American States. 2011 Guatemalan General Election
General elections were held in Guatemala on 11 September 2011 in order to elect the President, Vice President, members of Congress, members of the Central American Parliament and mayors and councillors for all municipalities. The Patriotic Party emerged as the largest party in Congress, winning 56 of the 158 seats. As no candidate received more than 50% of the vote, a second round of the presidential election was held on 6 November with Otto Pérez Molina of the PP facing Manuel Baldizón of Renewed Democratic Liberty.
