2019 Guatemala City Mayoral Election
The 2019 Guatemala City mayoral election was held on 16 June 2019. The elections will be held next to the 2019 Guatemalan general election, presidential, legislative, municipal and Central American Parliament elections. Twenty-three candidates were presented. The current mayor Ricardo Quiñónez took office after the death of Álvaro Arzú, and is presented for the first time as a candidate for mayor and maintain the hegemony of the Unionist Party (Guatemala), Unionist Party in Guatemala City. The polls show a close contest between the opposition candidate Roberto González Díaz-Durán from the Commitment, Renewal and Order (CREO), which competes for the third time to win the mayor's office and the current mayor Ricardo Quiñónez Lemus of Unionist Party (Guatemala), Unionist Party. Ricardo Quiñónez Lemus (cropped)
Ricardo Quiñónez Lemus (; born 5 January 1965) is a Guatemalan politician who has been serving as mayor of Guatemala City since 30 April 2018, after the death of Álvaro Arzú. Previously he served as first-Councillor, councilor of the municipality from 2008 until 2018. Early life and education Ricardo Quiñónez is son of María Magdalena Lemus Aguilar and the lawyer Ricardo Alfonso Quiñónez Sandoval, who was a representative of Pan American airlines. He has three siblings, Alfonso José, María Gabriela del Rosario, and Carmen Lucía. His grandfather and namesake was Interior and Foreign Minister during the government of Carlos Castillo Armas. His family and connections have been historically right wing. Prosperidad Ciudadana () is a political party in Guatemala. History Citizen Prosperity started as a political party in formation; on June 26, 2016 the political party was registered by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, and its registration process ended on June 25, 2019. In 2018-19, it had 20,000 members, its general secretary is Dami Anita Elizabeth Kristenson Sales. National Convergence Front
The National Convergence Front ( es, Frente de Convergencia Nacional, FCN–Nación) is a right-wing political party in Guatemala. History The party was established on 7 January 2008. It was initiated by a group of retired army officers, including veterans of Guatemalan Civil War, affiliated with the Military Veterans Association of Guatemala ''AVEMILGUA''. FCN did not nominate a presidential candidate in the 2011 general elections, but contested the Congressional elections, receiving 0.5% of the vote and failing to win a seat. In March 2013, the party chose the popular comic TV actor Jimmy Morales as its General Secretary. Todos (political Party)
Todos (lit. ''All'') is a political party in Guatemala. History In November 2011 a group of seven MPs from National Unity of Hope (UNE) led by Roberto Alejos left the party. After more MPs left the UNE, taking the group's membership beyond 11, they were allowed to form a parliamentary faction, which became known as "Purple Ties" after the neckties worn by its members. Alejos began the process of registering a new party, and held talks with Rodolfo Rosales García-Salas about forming a coalition with the Greens. A meeting was held on 26 August 2012 in which the Greens agreed to change the party name and symbols, becoming "Todos". Prior to the 2015 elections the party nominated Lizardo Arturo Sosa López as its presidential candidate within an election campaign that witnessed a wave of violence, as two candidates running for the party to be elected mayor or deputy mayor were killed in July 2015. Pedro Brolo Vila (born 3 February 1981) is a Guatemalan economist, diplomat and politician who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 14 January 2020 to 31 January 2022. He was appointed by President-elect Alejandro Giammattei to occupy that ministry.
