Miss Nederland
The Miss Nederland is a national beauty pageant in the Netherlands. The pageant was founded in 1929 in Amsterdam. History Former pageant From 1929 to 1931, the Netherlands held a national pageant in Amsterdam for the first time called "Miss Holland". From 1932 to 1949 the pageant was briefly discontinued and later recommenced in 1951 by the Miss Holland Organization. In 1951 the Netherlands debuted at the Miss World pageant and the Miss Universe pageant in 1956. The national beauty pageant was called "Miss Holland" from 1950 until 1990, since that year the winner competed at the Miss Universe, while runners-up traditionally competed at the Miss World pageant and the Miss International pageant. Since 1991 it became known as "Miss Nederland" whose winner went on to the Miss World pageant. Elly Koot
Elly Tibina Koot Brandt (born 1943) is a Dutch model who won the Miss Europe 1964, 1964 Miss Europe contest in Beirut, Lebanon. She was born in Rotterdam, where her mother was visiting family, but grew up in Amsterdam on the Singel near the Bloemenmarkt. She was discovered by the fashion photographer Hans Dukkers. She married Frank Brandt in 1966. She and Brandt (at that time a photographer) met while shooting a commercial for Rexona - a brand of deodorant - for which he was a stand in model. Though primarily a photo model, in Amsterdam she did fashion shows for and Fong Leng. From 1970 she also modeled in the United States for the Wilhelmina Models agency. In the 70s she was sometimes a jury member at Dutch beauty contests. In 1976 she developed Cushing's disease for which she had a successful surgery in the United States. Miss World 1962 was the 12th edition Miss World pageant, held at the Lyceum Ballroom, London, United Kingdom on 8 November 1962. The winner was Catharina Lodders of Holland. She was crowned by Miss World 1961, Rosemarie Frankland of United Kingdom. Lodders was the second woman from Holland to win Miss World title after Corine Rottschäfer in 1959. Miss World 1959 was the ninth Miss World pageant, held at the Lyceum Ballroom, London, United Kingdom on 10 November 1959. At the end of the event, the Chief Barker of the Variety Club of Great Britain crowned Corine Rottschäfer of Holland as Miss World 1959.
