Miss America 2023
Miss America 2023 was the 95th edition of the Miss America pageant, which occurred at the Mohegan Sun on December 15, 2022. Instead of airing on television, the pageant was streaming television, streamed for the second consecutive year. Unlike the 2022 edition, which streamed on the mainstream service Peacock (streaming service), Peacock, the 2023 edition was available only through Pageants Live, a pageant-specific streaming service featuring a subscription price of $32.99 per month at the time with no lower-cost or event-only option available. Emma Broyles of Alaska crowned Grace Stanke of Wisconsin as Miss America 2023 at the end of the event. Stanke became the third woman from Wisconsin won the title. Coincidentally, both Stanke and Broyles had previously competed together in Miss America's Outstanding Teen 2018. Grace Stanke
Grace Marie Stanke (born April 30, 2002) is an American Pro-nuclear energy movement, pro-nuclear energy activist and scholarship pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss America 2023 on December 15, 2022. A native of Wausau, Wisconsin, she is the third Miss Wisconsin to win the national title. She earned a bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering in 2023 from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and is currently employed by Constellation Energy as a Nuclear Fuels Engineer & Clean Energy Advocate. Early life and education Stanke is a graduate of Wausau West High School. Her father is a civil engineer. She began competing as a local titleholder in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageant circuit to improve her violin skills. Stanke was crowned Miss Wausau's Outstanding Teen 2016, Miss Harbor Cities' Outstanding Teen 2017, and finally Miss Wisconsin's Outstanding Teen 2017. Miss Louisiana
The Miss Louisiana competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Louisiana in the Miss America pageant. Although no delegate from Louisiana has ever won the Miss America title, four have placed 1st runner-up. As of 2022, Louisiana is the lone member of the Confederacy during the Civil War which has not produced a Miss America. The pageant is held the last week of June at the W. L. Jack Howard Theatre, named for the late Mayor W. L. "Jack" Howard and located in downtown Monroe adjacent to the Civic Center. The 2018 pageant was the fifty-fifth to have been held in Monroe. Miss California
The Miss California competition selects the representative for the state of California in the Miss America competition. The pageant began in Santa Cruz in 1924 and was held there in 1925. During the years 1926 through 1946 in years when the Miss California pageant was held, the competition was primarily in San Francisco and Venice, California. In 1947, it returned to Santa Cruz and was held there annually until 1985, after which it moved to San Diego in response to years of protests and a "Myth California" counter pageant organized by local feminist activists led by Ann Simonton and Nikki Craft. Miss Florida
The Miss Florida competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Florida in the Miss America pageant. Florida has twice won the Miss America crown. Miss Texas
The Miss Texas competition was founded in 1937 as a scholarship contest for young women. The winner represents Texas in the Miss America pageant; three winners have gone on to be crowned Miss America (but none since 1975). To become Miss Texas, a contestant must first win a local competition. A young woman may compete at the local and state level more than once, but may only compete in the national Miss America competition one time. Hundreds of women participate each year in the local pageants, culminating in the selection of local finalists who compete for the Miss Texas title each July. The state pageant was held in Fort Worth for 36 years before relocating to the University of Texas at Arlington's Texas Hall in 2009. Miss Nevada
The Miss Nevada competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Nevada in the Miss America competition, and the name of the title held by that winner. The first Nevadan to compete at Miss America was Carol Lampe in 1949. The competition currently takes place in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Other venues have included Reno, Elko, Las Vegas, Carson City and Mesquite. It has at various times been hosted by the Reno Lions Club and the Soroptimist club of Nevada. Miss Illinois
The Miss Illinois is a pageant program affiliated with Miss America, which is competition for women models representing the state of Illinois.
