MercurySteam
Mercury Steam Entertainment S.L., doing business as MercurySteam, is a Spanish video game developer based in San Sebastián de los Reyes, Madrid. It was founded by former members of Rebel Act Studios, who had developed '' Severance: Blade of Darkness'' in 2001. Dave Cox, a producer at Konami, assisted MercurySteam during the '' Castlevania: Lords of Shadow'' trilogy. After MercurySteam pitched a remake of the 2002 game ''Metroid Fusion'' to Nintendo, the producer, Yoshio Sakamoto, hired them to create a remake of '' Metroid II'' instead. MercurySteam collaborated with Nintendo again to develop a new game, '' Metroid Dread'', for the Nintendo Switch. ''Metroid: Samus Returns'' is a 2017 action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS handheld game console. It is a remake of the 1991 Game Boy game '' Metroid II: Return of Samus''. Players control series protagonist Samus Aran, a bounty hunter who is contracted by the Galactic Federation to exterminate the parasitic Metroid species on their home planet of SR388. While the story and structure parallel the original game, ''Samus Returns'' features redone graphics, updated controls and user interface, and new gameplay mechanics not seen in previous 2D ''Metroid'' titles, such as a melee counterattack and the ability to aim freely at any angle. ''Castlevania: Lords of Shadow'' is a 2010 action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and published by Konami. It was released on October 5, 2010, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a PC version released on August 27, 2013. The game is a reboot of the ''Castlevania'' series. Set in Southern Europe during the Middle Ages, the story focuses on Gabriel Belmont and his quest to defeat a malevolent order known as the Lords of Shadow and resurrect his wife. ''American McGee Presents: Scrapland'' is a 2004 action-adventure video game developed by MercurySteam, with American McGee as an executive producer and published by Enlight Software. A remastered version was released for Windows on December 13, 2021. Setting ''Scrapland''s story is set in the robot-populated world of the same name, also known by the inhabitants as Chimera, which seems like a giant asteroid vastly industrialized as a metropolis and surrounded by a world-scaled energy field and an orbital ring, both used to control entrance and exit of the planet. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2007.
