Marselisborg Dyrehave
Marselisborg is a small borough of Aarhus, Denmark. Being small and situated just south of Frederiksbjerg, Marselisborg is often considered part of Frederiksbjerg. History Like most of the boroughs outside the inner city of Aarhus, Marselisborg is a relatively new neighbourhood and got its name from the Marselisborg Manor, when the city council of Aarhus acquired the estate from the Marselis family in 1896. The Marselisborg Manor accidentally burned down soon after, and was replaced by the Marselisborg Gymnasium in 1911. The majority of the buildings in Marselisborg are from the early part of the 1900s and the borough is one of the most affluent areas in Aarhus Municipality, presenting large villas and mansions. Constantin Marselis
Constantin Marselis, or Constantijn Marselis (28 November 1647 - 16 June 1699), was a nobleman of the wealthy Dutch Marselis family. Biography Constantin Marselis was born in Amsterdam as the younger son of Gabriel Marselis (1609–1673) and Isabeau van Straaten. He had an elder brother Vilhelm Marselis (1643-1683) who was fief baron of Güldencrone. In 1667, the King of Denmark Frederik III sent for both Constantin and Vilhelm, to take over two of their father's Danish estates near Aarhus; ''Stadsgård'' and ''Havreballegård''. At the same time, they were appointed as Junkers of the Danish court. In 1668 they were appointed as Kammerjunkers. Shortly after the King's death in February 1670, Constantin Marselis married Sophie Elisabeth Charisius (1647-1706). He and his wife took residence on Stadsgård. Jutland Racecourse
The Jutland Racecourse ( Danish: Jydsk Væddeløbsbane) is a public racecourse in Aarhus, Denmark. The racecourse is situated on ''Observatorievejen '' adjacent to the Aarhus Sports Park in the Aarhus C district north of Højbjerg. History The first horse races in Aarhus were held around 1898 on ''Marselisborg Mark'' or ''Skejby Mark''. Races were almost all gallop apart from a few exceptions in the 1910s. There was no tradition in Aarhus for horse racing and the only areas large enough to accommodate it as a spectator sport were two hilly. In April 1923 local organizations requested Aarhus city council some of the newly acquired Marselisborg estate to establish a proper racecourse for horse racing. Marselisborg Yacht Harbour (Danish: ''Marselisborg Lystbådehavn'') is a marina located in Aarhus, Denmark. The marina has been in operation since 1991 and is situated adjacent to Tangkrogen on the south side of the Port of Aarhus, It includes restaurants, cafes, a hotel and a number of sports clubs and sailing schools. History The background for the yacht harbor was the expansion of the Port of Aarhus in 1981–83. The construction of the new port facilities required storing a large amount of dirt which created a lagoon by Tangkrogen. Boat owners who was waiting for a spot at one of the marinas in Arhus, or who couldn't afford one, started storing their boats and ships in the lagoon. Marselisborg Palace, ( da, Marselisborg Slot, ) is a royal residence of the Danish Royal Family in Aarhus. It has been the summer residence of Queen Margrethe II since 1967. Mindeparken
Mindeparken (The Memorial Park) is a memorial park and recreational area in the south of Aarhus City, next to Marselisborg Palace. History The Park itself, was inaugurated in 1925 by king Christian X and originally designed to accommodate larger gatherings of visiting Danish citizens living abroad. That role soon diminished and disappeared, as the annual gatherings in Rebild gained momentum. In 1934 a large monument in limestone, engraved with the names of and commemorating the 4,140 Danes killed in World War I, was erected. Designed by the Danish architect Axel Ekberg and Danish sculptor Axel Poulsen, they choose limestone from Euville in the Meuse department of France, a major battlefield in World War I. The memorial site is still in active use today and on 11 November, an annual ceremony is held here in memory of the dead. Bay Of Aarhus
The Bay of Aarhus, or Aarhus Bay, is a Danish waterway by Aarhus in eastern Jutland. The Bay of Aarhus is bounded by Kalø Vig in the north, Sletterhage and Helgenæs in the east, Samsø and Tunø to the south and the east Jutland coast to the west. The bay stretches over an area of and consists of a flat bassin, increasing in depth from 14 m in the west to 18 m in the east. The bay mainly exchanges water with the Kattegat through a deep trench along Helgenæs with depths to 50 m. In the bay's southern section there are a number of stony reefs including Norsminde Flak, Wulffs Flak, Mejlflak and Tunø Knob. These reefs and the islands of Tunø and Samsø, prevents an open connection with the Belt Sea. Tangkrogen (lit.: The Kelp-nook) is a public park in Aarhus, Denmark. The park is situated in the neighborhood Midtbyen by the coast with the Bay of Aarhus to the southeast, the Marselisborg neighborhood to the West and the Port of Aarhus to the North. The park is bounded by ''Strandvejen'' and ''Marselis Havnevej'' across from ''Chr. Filtenborgs Square''. Marselisborg Forests ( da, Marselisborgskovene), or simply Marselisborg Forest, is a forest to the south of Aarhus City in the Kingdom of Denmark.
