Kveikur
''Kveikur'' (pronounced , ''fuse'' or ''candlewick'') is the seventh studio album from Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. It was released 12 June 2013 in Japan, on 17 June internationally, and on 18 June in the United States through XL Recordings. It is the only album to be fully released through XL after the band departed EMI and Parlophone during the label's acquisition by Universal Music Group in 2012. It is the only album since their debut, ''Von'', not to feature Kjartan Sveinsson, following his departure in 2012 (instead featured as the album's co-producer), and the last to feature drummer Orri Páll Dýrason before his departure in 2018. The cover is a photo by the Brazilian artist Lygia Clark. Composition ''Kveikur'' sees a new direction taken by Sigur Rós, both musically and thematically. "Brennisteinn" (Icelandic language, Icelandic for "Brimstone", pronounced Help:IPA for Icelandic, /ˈprɛnːɪˌsteitn/) is a song written and recorded by Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós for their seventh studio album ''Kveikur''. It appears as the opening track on the album. "Brennisteinn" was released as the lead single from the album on March 25, 2013, after the album's official unveiling three days earlier. Sigur Rós () is an Icelandic post-rock band that formed in 1994 in Reykjavík. The album reached number eight on the UK Albums Chart and seven on the ''Billboard'' 200. The album was met with positive reviews as well with Metacritic, which assigns a normalised rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 74, based on 36 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Alex Somers
Alex Somers (born March 7, 1984) is an American visual artist and musician from Baltimore, Maryland, who attended Berklee College of Music and Listaháskóli Íslands. Somers lives and works in Los Angeles. Previously he ran a recording studio in downtown Reykjavík where he produced, engineered, and mixed since 2010. He and his former partner Jónsi, with whom he split in 2019, produce music and visual art under the name Jónsi & Alex. The pair have released an album and a picture book, both titled ''Riceboy Sleeps (album), Riceboy Sleeps''. Jónsi and Somers have also collaborated on Jónsi's solo project. ''Odin's Raven Magic'' is a 2002 orchestral setting to the Icelandic poem Hrafnagaldr Óðins. The composition was a collaboration by Sigur Rós, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, Steindór Andersen, Páll Guðmundsson and Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir. It was premiered at the Barbican Centre in London on 21 April 2002 and then performed at the Reykjavík Arts Festival on 24 May 2002. Orri Páll Dýrason (; born on 4 July 1977) is an Icelandic musician. From 1999 till 2018 he was the drummer for the band Sigur Rós, which he joined in 1999, shortly after the recording of the studio album ''Ágætis byrjun'', when the previous drummer, Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson, left the band. Post-rock is a subgenre of experimental rock that emphasizes Texture (music), texture, atmosphere, and non-traditional song structures over conventional rock techniques.
