Kantonsschule Solothurn
The Kantonsschule Solothurn is a gymnasium in the municipality of Solothurn, Switzerland. With approximately 1,800 students (stand: 2007) it is among the biggest schools in Switzerland. The current principal is Stefan Zumbrunn-Würsch. Structure The Kantonsschule of Solothurn is divided into *the Maturitätsschule, which offers a Scientific Profile, a Physical Education Profile, an Economic & Law Profile, an Art Profile and a Linguistic Profile. It is a four year school and students normally start at the age of 15. *the Fachmittelschule (social, education and health), which takes three years to graduate. Carla Stampfli
Carla Stampfli (born 25 April 1984) is a Swiss former swimmer, who specialized in butterfly events and later became a professional triathlete. She is a single-time Olympian (2004), a 27-time Swiss swimming champion, and a short-course national record holder in the 100 m butterfly (2007). Stampfli qualified for the women's 4×100 m medley relay, as a member of the Swiss team, at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Teaming with Dominique Diezi (backstroke), Carmela Schlegel (breaststroke), and Nicole Zahnd (freestyle), Stampfli swam the butterfly leg and recorded a split of 1:03.37. President Of The Swiss Confederation
The president of the Swiss Confederation, also known as the president of the Confederation or colloquially as the president of Switzerland, is the head of Switzerland's seven-member Federal Council, the country's executive branch. Elected by the Federal Assembly for one year, the officeholder chairs the meetings of the Federal Council and undertakes special representational duties. First among equals, the president of the Confederation has no powers over and above the other six councillors and continues to head the assigned department. Traditionally the duty rotates among the members in order of seniority; the vice president of the Federal Council assumes the presidency the year after the officeholder's tenure. The Federal Council (german: Bundesrat; french: Conseil fédéral; it, Consiglio federale; rm, Cussegl federal) is the executive body of the federal government of the Swiss Confederation and serves as the collective head of state and government of Switzerland. Samuel Schmid
Samuel Schmid (born 8 January 1947) is a Swiss politician who served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council from 2000 to 2008. He was the head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports (notably acting as a defense minister for Switzerland). Schmid was born in Rüti bei Büren, Canton of Bern. He was elected to the Federal Council on 6 December 2000. He was a member of the Swiss People's Party (SVP/UDC), and is now a member of the Conservative Democratic Party of Switzerland. Werner Ingold (20 February 1919 – 24 June 1995) was a Swiss chemist and entrepreneur. He was a pioneer in the field of chemical microanalysis, in particular in the development of glass-based, highly resistive pH electrodes. In 1948, he founded the Dr. W. Urs Glutz von Blotzheim (20 October 1751 – 8 December 1816) was a Switzerland, Swiss military officer and politician. Urs Glutz von Blotzheim was the son of the military officer Jacob Joseph Nicholas from the patrician class of the city of Solothurn, belonging to the noble family of Glutz von Blotzheim, and Anna Margaritha Josepha, born Wallier von Wendelstorf. From 1762 to 1769 he went to the Jesuit college in Solothurn, the predecessor of today's Kantonsschule Solothurn. In 1770 he was commissioned into the Swiss regiment Sury of the Kingdom of Sardinia.
