Kabi Nazrul Institute
The Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Institute is Bangladesh's national institute, established in February 1985. Its headquarters are located in Kabi Bhaban in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It fulfills a number of roles; promoting the literary work of the poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, recognising excellence in literature research by conferring awards, and public engagement. In January, 2025 it's change its name to Jatiya Kabi Nazrul Institute from Kabi Nazrul Institute. Structure and governance The institute is headed by an executive director who has a trustee board to advise them. The first executive director of the institute was Mohammad Mahfuzullah and the first chairman of the trustee board was Mohammad Nasiruddin. Crest (heraldry)
A crest is a component of a heraldic display, consisting of the device borne on top of the helm. Originating in the decorative sculptures worn by knights in tournaments and, to a lesser extent, battles, crests became solely pictorial after the 16th century (the era referred to by heraldists as that of "paper heraldry"). A normal heraldic achievement consists of the shield, above which is set the helm, on which sits the crest, its base encircled by a circlet of twisted cloth known as a torse. The use of the crest and torse independently from the rest of the achievement, a practice which became common in the era of paper heraldry, has led the term "crest" to be frequently but erroneously used to refer to the arms displayed on the shield, or to the achievement as a whole. Abdul Mannan Syed
Abdul Mannan Syed (3 August 19435 September 2010) was a Bangladeshi poet, and critic. He is known for his considerable research works on Kazi Nazrul Islam, Jibanananda Das, Farrukh Ahmad, Syed Waliullah, Manik Bandyopadhyay, Bishnu De, Samar Sen, Roquiah Sakhawat Hossain, Abdul Ghani Hazari, Muhammad Wajed Ali, Prabodh Chandra Sen. From 2002 to 2004, he held the position of Executive Director of Nazrul Institute. Life Syed was born on 3 August 1943 at Basirhat, on the Ichamati River, in the district of 24 Paraganas, in West Bengal of British India. Shabnam Mustari is a Bangladeshi Nazrul Geeti singer. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1997 and Nazrul Award in 2014 by the Government of Bangladesh. Anupam Hayat is a Bangladeshi author and film critic. The author of the first textbook on film in Bangladesh titled ''Cholochitra Bidya'', published by Bangladesh Film Study Centre in 2004, Hayat is also credited with another textbook on cinema as an art titled ''Chalachitra Kala'', published by University Grants Commission in 2007. Bedaruddin Ahmad
Bedaruddin Ahmad (15 March 1927 – 1998) was a Bangladeshi musician. He was the founder principal of Bulbul Lalitakala Academy. Early life and career Ahmad was born in Sherpur Upazila, Bogra District to Muhammad Mohiruddin and Nekjahan Begum. He first learnt to play the harmonium from Gour Chandra Ghosh. He stood first in a children's musical contest in North Bengal in 1940. Ahmad moved to Calcutta to study classical music from Yusuf Khan Qureshi, Mohammad Hossain Khasru and Raisuddin. Kabir Chowdhury
Kabir Chowdhury (9 February 1923 – 13 December 2011) was a Bangladeshi academic, essayist, materialist, translator, cultural worker and civil society activist. Early life and education Chowdhury was born in Brahmanbaria of the then Tipperah district of the Bengal Presidency where his father was working as a civil servant. His father, Khan Bahadur Abdul Halim Chowdhury, was a district magistrate. He grew up in an atmosphere of liberal ideas and secular thinking. Shaheen Samad (born 27 December 1952) is a Bangladeshi Nazrul Sangeet singer. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2016 by the Government of Bangladesh. Early life Samad was born in Kushtia to Shamsun Nahar Rahima Khatun and Samsul Huda. She spent her childhood at Jalpaiguri mostly. Nurjahan Begum
Nurjahan Begum (4 June 1925 – 23 May 2016) was the first female journalist in Bangladesh and a trailblazer for female journalists in South Asia. Begum was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2011 by the Government of Bangladesh. She served as the editor of ''Begum'' magazine. Career Begum was the daughter of Mohammad Nasiruddin, journalist and founder of '' Saogat'' and ''Begum'' magazines. Rawshan Ara Mustafiz
Rawshan Ara Mustafiz is a Bangladeshi singer of Nazrul Sangeet genre. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2006 by the Government of Bangladesh. Early life and career Mustafiz learned music from her mother Rashida Khatun Chowdhury and started to perform in children's programs on radio at the age of six. She wrote a book on music titled ''Shurer Bhubon'' for learners. Mustafiz got her breakthrough when her songs ''O Madhobi Thako Mor Ontorey'' and ''Brihoshpoti Amar Ekhon Tunggey'' aired on Bangladesh Television.
