KOLO-TV (channel 8) is a television station in Reno, Nevada, United States, affiliated with ABC and The CW Plus. It is owned by Gray Television alongside Incline Village–licensed low-power Telemundo affiliate KXNV-LD (channel 26). The two stations share studios on Ampere Drive in Reno; KOLO-TV's transmitter is located on Slide Mountain between SR 431 and I-580/US 395/ ALT in unincorporated Washoe County. History KOLO hit the airwaves September 23, 1953 as KZTV. It was the second station in Nevada, following KLAS-TV in Las Vegas (which went on air two months earlier) and the first in northern Nevada. It had hoped to be the first in Nevada, but a carpenters' strike delayed sign-on. It carried programming from all four networks, but was a primary CBS affiliate; despite this, none of the soap operas it cleared during the 1950s came from CBS. Its founding owner, Donald W. KVVU-TV (channel 5) is a television station licensed to Henderson, Nevada, United States, serving the Las Vegas area as an affiliate of the Fox network. Owned by Gray Television, the station maintains studios at the Broadcast Center on West Sunset Road in Henderson (using the 25 TV 5 Drive street address), while its transmitter is located on Black Mountain, just southeast of the city. Interstate 580 (Nevada)
Interstate 580 (I-580) is a auxiliary Interstate Highway in Western Nevada. It runs concurrently with US Route 395 (US 395) from an intersection with US 50 near the southern boundary of Carson City to the Reno Spaghetti Bowl interchange with I-80 in Reno. The freeway provides a high-speed direct route between Lake Tahoe and Carson City to Reno and I-80. Construction on a freeway between Carson City and Reno was planned since 1956, but construction did not occur until 1964. The freeway opened in sections, with the final section opening on August 2, 2017. The I-580 designation was approved on October 27, 1978, but the freeway was not signed as such until the portion between Reno and Carson City was completed following the opening of the Galena Creek Bridge in late August 2012. KIHM
KIHM (920 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Catholic religious radio format. Licensed to Reno, Nevada, United States, it serves the Reno area. The station is owned by Relevant Radio. History KOLO On September 25, 1944, the Reno Broadcasting Company filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission for a new radio station to broadcast on 920 kHz in Reno with 1,000 watts. The FCC approved its application, and that of Sierra Broadcasting Company for 1340 kHz, on March 7, 1946. Taking an affiliation with CBS and the call letters KOLO, the station signed on the air August 10, 1946 as the third in town. Ultra high frequency (UHF) is the ITU designation for radio frequencies in the range between 300 megahertz (MHz) and 3 gigahertz (GHz), also known as the decimetre band as the wavelengths range from one meter to one tenth of a meter (one decimeter).
