Jämsänkoski
Jämsänkoski is a former List of cities and towns in Finland, town and List of former municipalities of Finland, municipality of Finland in the Central Finland region. It is located near Lake Päijänne and the Jämsänjoki river. The town had a population of 7,351 in 2008. It covered an area of 448.67 km² of which 48.02 km² is water. The population density was 16.9 inhabitants per km². The municipality of Koskenpää was consolidated with Jämsänkoski in 1969, while Jämsänkoski was consolidated with Jämsä in 2009. History Linnasenmäki, the remains of an Iron Age hillfort, are located in the southern part of Jämsänkoski near the paper mill. The area may have had Stone Age settlement as well. Central Finland
Central Finland (; ) is a Regions of Finland, region ( / ) in Finland. It borders the regions of Päijät-Häme, Pirkanmaa, South Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia, North Ostrobothnia, Northern Savonia, North Savo, and Southern Savonia, South Savo. Längelmäki is a former municipality of Finland. Längelmäki was divided in 2007 between Jämsä and Orivesi. Längelmäki is situated by the lake Längelmävesi, from which it has got also its name. The administrative center of Längelmäki was the village of Länkipohja. Its western parts are now part of the Pirkanmaa region and the eastern part are part of the Central Finland region. The municipality had a population of 1,734 (2003) and covered an area of 496,88 km2 of which 73,33 km2 was water (2006). The population density was 3.5 inhabitants per km2. Kuorevesi
Kuorevesi is a former municipality in Finland. It was part of the Pirkanmaa region in western Finland. In the year 2001 it was consolidated into the town of Jämsä in the Central Finland region. The name of the municipality came from the Lake Kuorevesi that is situated in its area. History The name of Kuorevesi is derived from the lake's name, which literally means " smelt water". Kuorevesi was first mentioned in 1449 as ''Kohrevesi'', though this may have referred to the lake. The area was a part of the Kangasala parish until 1540 and Orivesi until 1640, after which it became a part of the Längelmäki parish separated from Orivesi in the same year. Kuorevesi acquired its first proper church in 1683. Kuorevesi became a separate municipality in 1873 and a parish in 1881.
