Kuorevesi
Kuorevesi is a former municipality in Finland. It was part of the Pirkanmaa region in western Finland. In the year 2001 it was consolidated into the town of Jämsä in the Central Finland region. The name of the municipality came from the Lake Kuorevesi that is situated in its area. History The name of Kuorevesi is derived from the lake's name, which literally means "smelt water". Kuorevesi was first mentioned in 1449 as ''Kohrevesi'', though this may have referred to the lake. The area was a part of the Kangasala parish until 1540 and Orivesi until 1640, after which it became a part of the Längelmäki parish separated from Orivesi in the same year. Kuorevesi acquired its first proper church in 1683. Kuorevesi became a separate municipality in 1873 and a parish in 1881. Lake Kuorevesi ( fi, Kuorevesi) is a medium-sized lake in Finland. It is situated in the municipalities of Mänttä-Vilppula and Jämsä (formerly Kuorevesi) in the Central Finland region. Jämsä () is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the Central Finland region, about southwest of Jyväskylä. Nestori Toivonen
Nestori Kallenpoika Toivonen (25 March 1865 – 6 April 1927) was a Finnish sport shooter who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics and in the 1920 Summer Olympics. Häme Province
The Province of Häme ( fi, Hämeen lääni, sv, Tavastehus län) was a province of Finland from 1831 to 1997. In 1997 the southern parts with Kanta-Häme, Päijät-Häme was merged with the province of Uusimaa and Kymi into the new Province of Southern Finland. The northern part with Pirkanmaa was merged with the provinces of Vaasa, Central Finland, Turku and Pori into the new Province of Western Finland. Western Finland Province
Western Finland ( fi, Länsi-Suomen lääni, sv, Västra Finlands län) was a province of Finland from 1997 to 2009. It bordered the provinces of Oulu, Eastern Finland and Southern Finland. It also bordered the Gulf of Bothnia towards Åland. Tampere was the largest city of the province. Tyyne Salomaa
Tyyne Siviä Salomaa (née ''Eriksson''; 4 April 1891, Kuorevesi - 26 February 1938, Petrozavodsk; name as Soviet citizen ''Тюне Генриховна Саломаа'') was a Finnish seamstress and politician. She was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1916 to 1917. During the Finnish Civil War in 1918, she sided with the Reds and after the defeat of the Red side went into exile in Soviet Russia. She joined the Communist Party of Finland (SKP) and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and settled in the Karelian ASSR, where she worked as a teacher at a party school, as the director of an orphanage and in other functions. Liisa Rantalaiho (born January 25, 1933) is a Finnish sociologist, fandom activist, and professor emerita in the fields of sociology of health and gender studies. She writes and performs filk songs. Early life and education Liisa Rantalaiho was born January 25, 1933, in Kuorevesi. She defended her Ph.D. thesis in social science in 1968. Research and career Rantalaiho served as professor of sociology at the University of Lapland in 1988–1989, and in public health science at the University of Tampere in 1990–1998. A pioneer of women's studies in Finland, she has mainly focused on women's research, gender equality, and changes in working life. Together with Raija Julkunen, she led a research project on the Finnish welfare society and gender roles, which was funded by the Academy of Finland.
