John Charles Carney Jr. (born May 20, 1956) is an American politician who has served as the List of mayors of Wilmington, Delaware, 57th mayor of Wilmington, Delaware, since 2025. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, Carney was the List of governors of Delaware, 74th Governor of Delaware from 2017 to 2025, the United States House of Representatives, U.S. representative for from 2011 to 2017, the List of lieutenant governors of Delaware, 24th lieutenant governor of Delaware from 2001 to 2009, and Delaware's secretary of finance from 1996 to 2000. The 2024 Wilmington mayoral election was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, to elect the mayor of Wilmington, Delaware.
