Jobellisia
''Jobellisia'' is a genus of fungi within the family Jobiellaceae, class Sordariomycetes. The genus was circumscribed by Margaret Elizabeth Barr-Bigelow in 1993 with '' J. luteola'' as the type species. It contains species that grow on dead wood and bark in tropical and temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Barr originally classified ''Jobellisia'' in the family Clypeosphaeriaceae of the order Xylariales. Later phylogenetic work showed that ''J. luteola'' and '' J. fraterna'' formed a clade that is sister to the order Diaporthales. In 2008, Martina Réblová erected a new genus, '' Bellojisia'' (an anagram of ''Jobellisia''), to contain what was then called ''Jobellisia rhynchostoma'', and created the family Jobiellaceae for the remaining ''Jobellisia'' species. Sordariomycetes
Sordariomycetes is a class of fungi in the subdivision Pezizomycotina (Ascomycota), consisting of 28 orders, 90 families, 1344 genera. Sordariomycetes is from the Latin sordes (filth) because some species grow in animal feces, though growth habits vary widely across the class. Sordariomycetes generally produce their asci in perithecial fruiting bodies. Sordariomycetes are also known as Pyrenomycetes, from the Greek πυρἠν - 'the stone of a fruit' - because of the usually somewhat tough texture of their tissue. Sordariomycetes possess great variability in morphology, growth form, and habitat. Most have perithecial (flask-shaped) fruiting bodies, but ascomata can be less frequently cleistothecial (like in the genera '' Anixiella'', ''Apodus'', ''Boothiella'', ''Thielavia'', ''Zopfiella''),. Job Bicknell Ellis
Job Bicknell Ellis (January 21, 1829 – December 30, 1905) was a pioneering North American mycologist known for his study of ascomycetes, especially the grouping of fungi called the Pyrenomycetes (known today as the Sordariomycetes). Born and raised in New York, he worked as a teacher and farmer before developing an interest in mycology. He collected specimens extensively, and together with his wife, prepared 200,000 sets of dried fungal samples that were sent out to subscribers in series between 1878 and 1894. Together with colleagues William A. Kellerman and Benjamin Matlack Everhart, he founded the ''Journal of Mycology'' in 1885, forerunner to the modern journal ''Mycologia''. He described over 4000 species of fungi, and his collection of over 100,000 specimens is currently housed at the herbarium of the New York Botanical Gardens. Diaporthales
Diaporthales is an order of sac fungi. Wijayawardene et al. in 2020 added a number of name families to the order. Diaporthales includes a number of plant pathogenic fungi, the most notorious of which is ''Cryphonectria parasitica'' (Murrill) Barr, the chestnut blight fungus that altered the landscape of eastern North America. Other diseases caused by members of this order include stem canker of soybeans (''Diaporthe phaseolorum'' (Cooke & Ellis) Sacc. and its varieties), stem-end rot of citrus fruits (''Diaporthe citri'' F.A. Sister Group
In phylogenetics, a sister group or sister taxon, also called an adelphotaxon, comprises the closest relative(s) of another given unit in an evolutionary tree. Definition The expression is most easily illustrated by a cladogram: Taxon A and taxon B are sister groups to each other. Taxa A and B, together with any other extant or extinct descendants of their most recent common ancestor (MRCA), form a monophyletic group, the clade AB. Clade AB and taxon C are also sister groups. Xylariales
The Xylariales are an order of fungi within the class Sordariomycetes (also known as Pyrenomycetes), subdivision Pezizomycotina, division Ascomycota. It is the only order of the subclass Xylariomycetidae.
