Jacob Thorssell
Jacob Thorssell (born 24 July 1993) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. He is a two times Swedish national champion. Career Thorssell joined Wolverhampton Wolves in the Elite League for the 2012 season, as a replacement for Pontus Aspgren who had picked up an injury. After impressing at Wolves, Thorssell was announced in the permanent line-up for the 2013 season. After continuing to impress in 2013 and also in 2014 Thorssell made the step up to being one of Wolverhampton's three heat leaders for the 2015 season, and was the first rider to be announced in their team.In 2016 he won the Wolverhampton Olympique but in 2017, he broke a bone in his lower back riding for the Wolves. He remained at Wolves for eight seasons until the end of the 2019 season. From 2021 to 2022 he rode for Opole in the Polish leagues and since 2019 has ridden for Dackarna in his home country. Åtvidaberg is a locality and the seat of Åtvidaberg Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden with 6,859 inhabitants in 2010. History Copper was mined in the area from the 14th century, and the name "Åtvidaberg" was originally the name of a ''bergslag'' (a type of mining community). Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . 2023 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2023 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 29th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 78th FIM Speedway World Championship. It was the second series promoted by Discovery Sports Events. Bartosz Zmarzlik was the defending champion, having won the 2022 title. Zmarzlik successfully retained the title, winning a fourth championship, despite being disqualified from round nine in Denmark. He beat Fredrik Lindgren by eight points, with Martin VaculĂk securing the bronze medal. During the championships, Zmarzlik secured four Grand Prix wins after the Latvian Grand Prix, which equalled the 22 career Grand Prix wins of fellow Pole Tomasz Gollob. He then went on to win a fifth Grand Prix, which equalled the all-time record of 23 held by Jason Crump. 2025 Speedway Grand Prix Qualification
The 2025 Individual Speedway World Championship Grand Prix Qualification or GP Challenge was a series of motorcycle speedway meetings held during 2024 to determine the riders that qualified for the 2025 Speedway Grand Prix. The series consisted of four qualifying rounds at Abensberg, Debrecen, Lonigo and Žarnovica and the Grand Prix Challenge at Pardubice. Preliminary qualification events included the Grand Prix qualifier in Denmark. The four riders that qualified were Brady Kurtz, Anders Thomsen, Dominik Kubera and Max Fricke. 2025 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2025 Speedway Grand Prix season is the 31st season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and will decide the 80th FIM Speedway World Championship. It is the fourth series promoted by Discovery Sports Events. For the first time Great Britain will host two rounds of the championship. The original schedule showed the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester joining the flagship Principality Stadium in Cardiff on the calendar, but the Cardiff round was subsequently cancelled and replaced with a second grand prix in Manchester. The 2024 Speedway of Nations was the sixth edition of the Speedway of Nations, and 32nd edition of a pairs competition for national teams in motorcycle speedway. The competition consisted of three events, which took place at the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester, England, between 9 July and 13 July 2024. The under-21 Speedway of Nations 2 took place at the same venue on 12 July. The first semi-final was won by Sweden, who finished one point ahead of Poland. Germany also secured a place in the final after winning the final qualifier against Finland. 2023 Speedway World Cup
The 2023 FIM Speedway World Cup (SWC) was the 18th Speedway World Cup, an international motorcycle speedway world championship tournament organised by the FIM. The 2023 edition was the first since 2017 and took place between 25 July and 29 July 2023 and involved nine national teams. Poland successfully defended their 2017 title defeating Great Britain after a last heat decider. Great Britain trailed Poland by one point going into the final heat and Robert Lambert (who had only dropped one point all night) was positioned in second place with Maciej Janowski in fourth, which meant that Great Britain would take the title. However, Janowski moved into third place, which would send the final into a run-off, but the Pole overtook Lambert on the last lap to claim victory for Poland. The SGB Premiership 2019 was the 85th season of the top division, called the SGB Premiership, of the British speedway championship. Two teams from the 2018 season, Leicester Lions and Somerset Rebels, dropped down to the next league down, the SGB Championship, and were replaced in the league by Ipswich Witches and Peterborough Panthers.
