2023 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2023 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 29th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 78th FIM Speedway World Championship. It was the second series promoted by Discovery Sports Events. Bartosz Zmarzlik was the defending champion, having won the 2022 title. Zmarzlik successfully retained the title, winning a fourth championship, despite being disqualified from round nine in Denmark. He beat Fredrik Lindgren by eight points, with Martin Vaculík securing the bronze medal. During the championships, Zmarzlik secured four Grand Prix wins after the Latvian Grand Prix, which equalled the 22 career Grand Prix wins of fellow Pole Tomasz Gollob. He then went on to win a fifth Grand Prix, which equalled the all-time record of 23 held by Jason Crump. Qualification For the 2023 season there were 15 permanent riders, who were joined at each Grand Prix by one wild card and two track reserves. Bartosz Zmarzlik
Bartosz Zmarzlik (Polish: ; born 12 April 1995) is a Polish motorcycle speedway rider, a five-time World Champion (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024), three-time World Team Champion (2016, 2017, 2023), World Junior Champion (2015) and European Junior Champion (2012). He is the third Polish rider in history, after Jerzy Szczakiel and Tomasz Gollob, to win an individual World Championship title. He was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta, V class in 2019 and won the Polish Sports Personality of the Year title in 2020 becoming the second speedway rider to accomplish this feat. Jason Kevin Doyle (born 6 October 1985) is an Australian motorcycle speedway rider. He became World Champion in 2017 after winning the 2017 Speedway Grand Prix. Doyle is a member of the Australia national speedway team and represented his country in the Speedway World Cup and was a part of the Australian team that won the 2022 Speedway of Nations. Goričan
Goričan () is a municipalities of Croatia, municipality in Međimurje County, Croatia. Goričan is the only village belonging to the municipality. Its population in the 2011 census was 2,823. Stadium Milenium
The Stadium Milenium or Speedway Stadion Milenium is a 7,500-capacity multi-use stadium between Donji Kraljevec and Goričan, Croatia. The stadium has been used as the venue for the World Championship round known as the Speedway Grand Prix of Croatia from 2010 to 2012 and since 2022. The stadium construction is credited to Yugoslav champion rider Zvonimir Pavlić and the speedway track has a circumference of 305 metres. The stadium hosted the speedway team Unia Goričan, who competed in the 2006 European Speedway Club Champions' Cup and 2007 European Speedway Club Champions' Cup. Dimitri Bergé (born 5 February 1996) is a motorcycle speedway rider from France. Career Bergés' major honours include the 2009 125cc Grasstrack and the World 250cc Longtrack Champion 2012. He was a World Under-21 finalist in 2016 and 2017 and represented France in the 2018 Speedway of Nations. As well as Speedway he is an accomplished Long Track rider and won a bronze medal in the 2015 Individual Long Track World Championship. Luke Becker
Luke Becker (born 11 February 1999) is a motorcycle speedway rider from the United States. Career Becker began his British career riding for Wolverhampton Wolves in 2019. Unable to ride during 2020 because of Covid-19 cancelled season, he continued to ride for Wolverhampton during the SGB Premiership 2021. In 2022, he rode for the Wolverhampton Wolves in the SGB Premiership 2022. After being named Wolves Rider of the Year he signed for the club for the 4th consecutive season, competing in the SGB Premiership 2023. However, he had a bad start to 2023 when breaking his leg in a crash in Slovakia before his Wolves season got underway. Kai Huckenbeck (born 23 February 1993) is a motorcycle speedway rider from Germany. Career Huckenbeck has been the champion of Germany on three occasions. He rode in the top tier of British Speedway signing and riding for the King's Lynn Stars in 2016 and in the SGB Premiership 2017. Jack Holder (born 23 March 1996) is an Australian motorcycle speedway rider. Jack is a World team champion and his brother Chris Holder is a former World individual champion. Career A successful rider in Australia, he came to England and first rode for Plymouth Devils in 2015. He was part of the Plymouth team that won the Premier League Four-Team Championship, which was held on 23 and 24 July 2016, at the East of England Arena.
