Independents 4 Change is an Irish political alliance, with registration as a political party, comprising several independent politicians. It had two MEPs in the Ninth European Parliament: Clare Daly and Mick Wallace. History The political grouping registered as a political party in 2014. It was previously known as the "Independents for Equality" Movement. Four candidates contested the 2014 local elections for the group in each of the local electoral areas in Wexford County Council. None of them were elected. The party adopted its current name in September 2015, after the establishment of the Right2Change electoral alliance, which its candidates in the 2016 general election subscribed. People Before Profit (, PBP) is a Trotskyist political party formed in October 2005. The party is active in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. History As Socialist Environmental Alliance People Before Profit was established in 2005 as the People Before Profit Alliance by members of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), a Trotskyist organisation affiliated to the International Socialist Tendency (IST). South Dublin County Council () is the local authority of the county of South Dublin, Ireland. It is one of three local authorities created by the Local Government (Dublin) Act 1993 to succeed the former Dublin County Council before its abolition on 1 January 1994 and one of four councils in County Dublin. Maureen O'Sullivan (born 10 March 1951) is an Irish former independent politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin Central constituency from 2009 to 2020. Early life A native of Dublin's East Wall, she was educated locally at Mount Carmel school. After completing a BA at University College Dublin, she then went on to work as an English and History teacher and guidance counsellor in a secondary school in Baldoyle, a position she held for 30 years. Thomas Pringle (born 30 August 1967) is an Irish independent politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Donegal constituency from 2016 to 2024, and previously from 2011 to 2016 for the Donegal South-West constituency. Early life Pringle was born into an Irish republican family. His father, Peter, was a supporter of the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP), and was wrongfully convicted of the killing of two members of the Gardaí in 1980, a conviction that was subsequently declared as unsafe, although it has not been certified as a miscarriage of justice. He is a patron of the People's Movement, which campaigned against the Lisbon Treaty. He previously worked for Donegal County Council, where he managed a water treatment plant and was a shop steward. Catherine Connolly (born 12 July 1957) is an Irish independent politician who served as Leas-Cheann Comhairle of the 33rd Dáil from July 2020 to November 2024. She has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Galway West constituency since 2016. In parliamentary politics, a technical group or mixed group is a heterogeneous group of elected officials who are of differing ideologies, comprising multiple small political parties, independent politicians, or a combination of both. They can be distinguished from more conventional parliamentary groups which have a coherent political ideology (such as all members of the group being from the same political party). Technical groups are formed for technical reasons, so that members enjoy certain rights or benefits that would otherwise remain unavailable to them outside a formally recognized parliamentary group.
