Hagbart Steffens
Hagbart Steffens (13 August 1874 – 27 June 1932) was a Norwegian sportsperson. As a yacht racer he competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics. Steffens was born in Kristiania. In 1908 he was part of the Norwegian ''Fram'' crew, which finished fourth in the Olympic 8 metre class competition. He represented the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club. He was also an early member of the skiing club SK Ondur Skiklubben Ondur was a Norwegian skiing club, based in Oslo but with its sporting facilities in Vestre Aker (before 1900) and Bærum. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. The International Eight Metre class are class of racing yachts. Eight Metre boats (often called "Eights" or 8mR) are a ''construction class'', meaning that the boats are not identical but are all designed to meet specific measurement formula, in this case International rule. Before WW II, Eights were the most prestigious international yacht racing class and they are still raced around the world. "Eight metre" in class name does not, somewhat confusingly, refer to length of the boat, but product of the formula. 8mR boats are on average some 15 metres long. Royal Norwegian Yacht Club
The Royal Norwegian Yacht Club ( no, Kongelig Norsk Seilforening, KNS) is a yacht club in Oslo, Norway. The club was founded in 1883 as country-wide organisation with affiliated local yacht clubs. In 1884, it was granted the right for members to fly the naval Ensign of Norway with the Royal cypher on a centrally placed white field. In 1970, it was reorganized as local club for the Oslo area, under a new nationwide federation of yacht clubs (Norges Seilforbund). To date, the club has some 4,000 members. SK Ondur
Skiklubben Ondur was a Norwegian skiing club, based in Oslo but with its sporting facilities in Vestre Aker (before 1900) and Bærum. It was founded in 1891. History The club was founded on 21 November 1891 by schoolboys from Kristiania city (now: Oslo). The name Ondur is an Old Norse word for ski. The original by-laws of the club prescribed a membership that should not surpass 15; also, the active members had to hail from Kristiania. In the first two years, the boys practiced their sport in different locations. From 1893 to 1900, the club rented a lot at Tangen near Bogstadvannet in Vestre Aker. A skiing cabin was erected, and in 1896 a small ski jumping hill ''Ondurbakken'' was established.
