Gilli (Hebridean Earl)
Gilli was an eleventh-century Hebridean chieftain whose career coincided with an era of Earldom of Orkney, Orcadian overlordship in the Kingdom of the Isles. According to mediaeval saga-tradition, Gilli was a brother-in-law of Sigurðr Hlǫðvisson, Earl of Orkney, having married the latter's sister Hvarflǫð. Traditionally regarded as one of the most powerful Orcadian earls, Sigurðr appears to have extended his authority into the Isles in the late tenth century. Gilli apparently acted as Sigurðr's viceroy or tributary earl in the region. The time frame of Gilli's apparent authority in the Isles is uncertain, and may date as early as the reign of Guðrøðr Haraldsson, King of the Isles, or as late as the period following the death of this man's eventual successor, Ragnall mac Gofraid, Rǫgnvaldr Guðrøðarson, King of the Isles. Gilli (also known as Gille) was the first known Lawman (or Lawspeaker) of the Faroe Islands. He served in that capacity beginning around 1000, and continuing until an unknown date. Kian Rosenberg Larsson (born 27 June 1992), known professionally as Gilli, is a Danish rapper, singer, and songwriter from Rødovre, Capital Region. Gillian Mary Smyth (1 June 1933 – 22 August 2016) was an English musician best known for co-founding the psychedelic rock group Gong with her partner Daevid Allen in 1967. She also released music with spinoff groups Mother Gong and Planet Gong as well as releasing several solo albums and albums in collaboration with other members of Gong. In Gong, she often performed under the name Shakti Yoni, contributing poems and vocals dubbed "space whispers". Biography Smyth was born in London. Gilli Rólantsson Sørensen (born 11 August 1992) is a Faroese professional footballer who plays for Klaksvíkar Ítróttarfelag and the Faroe Islands national team. ''Ghilli'' ( ) is a 2004 Indian Tamil-language sports action film directed by Dharani and produced by A. M. Rathnam. It is a remake of the Telugu film '' Okkadu'' (2003), written and directed by Gunasekhar, with few changes made to the story. The Totapuri mango, or Ginimoothi, is a cultivar that is widely grown in south India and is partially cultivated in Sri Lanka. It also goes by the names Bangalore, Collector, Kallamai, Kili Mooku, Gilli, Mukku, "Ottu", and Sandersha. In Bengaluru it is referred to as Ginimoothi Maavina Kayi, while most of the rest of India calls it Totapuri or Bangalora. It literally translates to parrot face (gini = parrot, muthi = beak). Totapuri mango skin lacks the usual bitter taste of most mango skins or has a very slight bitterness and is consumed with the flesh traditionally.
