Gaudi (The Alan Parsons Project Album)
''Gaudi'' is the tenth album by The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1987. ''Gaudi'' refers to Antoni Gaudí, the Spanish architect, and the opening track references what is probably Gaudí's best known building, the ''Sagrada Família''. Project regular David Paton was unable to undertake bass duties on this recording due to a prior touring commitment with Elton John. Saxophonist-keyboardist Richard Cottle's brother, Laurie, was recruited to play bass. The album was recorded at the Grange in Norfolk and Mayfair Studios in London using a pair of Sony 3324 DASH digital tape recorders and mixed to a digital master. This was the final canonical Alan Parsons Project studio album, as well as vocalist Lenny Zakatek's final contribution to any Parsons album. The Alan Parsons Project
The Alan Parsons Project was a British rock music, rock duo formed in London in 1975. Its core membership consisted of producer, audio engineer, musician and composer Alan Parsons, and singer, songwriter and pianist Eric Woolfson. They shared writing credits on almost all of their songs, with Parsons producing or co-producing all of the recordings, while being accompanied by various session musicians, some relatively consistently. The Alan Parsons Project released eleven studio albums over a 15-year career, the most successful ones being ''I Robot (album), I Robot'' (1977), ''The Turn of a Friendly Card'' (1980) and ''Eye in the Sky (album), Eye in the Sky'' (1982). Laurence Cottle
Laurence Cottle (born 16 December 1961) is a Welsh bass guitarist and composer. Career His solo recordings have been mostly in jazz and jazz fusion. He was a member of the fusion quartet The Fents and appeared on their second album, ''The Other Side'', released on the Passport Jazz label in 1987. He played with The Alan Parsons Project on '' Gaudi'', their final album for Arista, and on ''Freudiana'', Parsons's final collaboration with Eric Woolfson. He is the brother of Richard Cottle (also a musician), playing with him during his time with The Alan Parsons Project. Shortly after, he was hired by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath to play bass on the studio sessions that would become their 1989 album '' Headless Cross''. Cottle wrote and played all the bass parts for the album and appeared on the music video for the song "Headless Cross" but didn't perform live or tour with the band. Rhodes Piano
The Rhodes piano (also known as the Fender Rhodes piano) is an electric piano invented by Harold Rhodes, which became popular in the 1970s. Like a conventional piano, the Rhodes generates sound with keys and hammers, but instead of strings, the hammers strike thin metal tines, which vibrate next to an electromagnetic pickup. The signal is then sent through a cable to an external keyboard amplifier and speaker. The instrument evolved from Rhodes's attempt to manufacture pianos while teaching recovering soldiers during World War II. Development continued after the war and into the following decade. In 1959, Fender began marketing the Piano Bass, a cut-down version; the full-size instrument did not appear until after Fender's sale to CBS in 1965. Vitamin Z were an English band, formed in 1982 by vocalist Geoff Barradale and bassist Nick Lockwood. Their biggest hit "Burning Flame (song), Burning Flame" charted in the UK and US, but their one other hit in the UK, "Every Time That I See You", did not chart in the US. ''Roomies'' is an American sitcom television series created by Sy Rosen, that aired on NBC from March 19 until May 15, 1987. Reruns of the series later aired on Saturday mornings in 1991. ''Try Anything Once'' is the first solo album by Alan Parsons, released in 1993. It was his first album following the split of the Alan Parsons Project. This album features vocals by Ambrosia's David Pack, Jacqui Copland, former Mindbender and 10cc guitarist Eric Stewart, and Manfred Mann's Earth Band frontman Chris Thompson. The album features completely digital recording and mixing. It was recorded at Parson's first "Parsonics" studio in Sussex England with the orchestra recorded at Air Studios in London. There is an Easter egg inside the inlay. One of the pictures is a stereogram; when the viewer looks at it correctly, an image of a man and woman upside down will appear, similar to the other pictures in the album's artwork. Freudiana
''Freudiana'' is a rock opera by Eric Woolfson. It was to be the 11th album by the Alan Parsons Project, but during its development, Woolfson had creative differences with Alan Parsons, causing the Project's split. With the two still working together on the album, the 1990 production utilizes the Project's personnel as well as guest vocalists, making it the "unofficial" Project album. The Project's official 11th and final album would end up being '' The Sicilian Defence'', later released in 2014 after being shelved for 36 years since its recording in 1979, as part of ''The Complete Albums'' box set. Woolfson hit upon the idea of researching the life and works of Sigmund Freud with a view to their musical potential after he finished ''Gaudi''.
