Galaxy Media Partners
Galaxy Media Partners (formerly Galaxy Communications) is a radio broadcasting company with radio stations entirely in the Central New York area. As of 2024, Galaxy owns 13 radio signals in New York. History Ed Levine, the company's president, attended the Newhouse School at Syracuse University where his love for radio began. After serving as program director for the college radio station, Levine and two classmates started Syracuse’s first live FM radio station in 1978. On February 12, 1990, the first Galaxy station, WKLL was launched by Levine, and his business partner, Bob Raide. WKLL was named for Ed and wife Pam’s then-19-month-old daughter Lauren. In the 1990s, Galaxy launched additional stations in Syracuse and Utica. In 2001, the headquarters was moved from Bridgeport to a new building in Armory Square, located in downtown Syracuse. WBEC-FM
WBEC-FM (95.9 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. It is owned by Townsquare Media and broadcasts a Top 40 format. WBEC-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 1,000 watts. The transmitter is off Alpine Trail in Pittsfield, near South Street ( U.S. Route 20). History In 1975, the station signed on as WGRG-FM, airing a free form progressive rock sound. At that time, it was not associated with WBEC (1420 AM). WBEC had an FM station on 94.3 MHz dating back to the late 1940s, but gave it up in an era when few people owned FM receivers. Active Rock
Active rock is a radio format used by many commercial radio stations across the United States and Canada. Active rock stations play a balance of new hard rock songs with valued classic rock favorites, normally with an emphasis on the harder edge of mainstream rock and album-oriented rock. WTKW (99.5 FM "TK99") is a classic rock radio station in Bridgeport, New York. The station broadcasts to the Syracuse, New York market. WTKW was launched in 1992 as a country music station under the leadership of Bob Paris (real name Gary W. Gallup), a longtime disc jockey in Syracuse. It was changed to its current classic rock format in 1993 when Classic Rock 104.3 KIX-FM (WKFM, now WFRG-FM) became country-formatted Big Frog 104 and the Syracuse radio market was left without a classic rock radio station. WOUR (96.9 FM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Utica, New York. It broadcasts a classic rock radio format, with occasional recent rock hits, calling itself "The Rock of Central New York". James Arthur Boeheim Jr. ( ; born November 17, 1944) is an American former college basketball coach and current Special Assistant to the Athletic Director at Syracuse University. From 1976 until 2023, he was the head coach of the Syracuse Orange men's basketball, Syracuse Orange men's team of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The company started in radio and expanded into digital media toward the end of the 2000s, starting with the acquisition of the MOG Music Network.
