WBEC-FM (95.9 MHz) is a commercial station in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. It is owned by Townsquare Media and broadcasts a Top 40 radio format. Most programming is provided by Boston sister station WEEI-FM. History The 105.5 MHz frequency used by WWEI was originally allocated to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, where it signed on in October 1967 as WQRB-FM. History The station went on the air July 12, 1964, as WMNB-FM, owned by the Hardman family along with WMNB (1230 AM) and the ''North Adams Transcript''. The Hardmans sold Northern Berkshire Broadcasting to Donald A. Thurston in 1966; the company became Berkshire Broadcasting after the purchase of WSBS in Great Barrington in 1968. History Ed Levine, current president, attended the Newhouse School at Syracuse University where his love for radio began. After serving as program director for the college radio station, Levine and two classmates started Syracuse’s first live FM radio station in 1978.
