''Fable'''', EMI Japan. Retrieved 2012-01-07. (), alternatively titled ''Legend'', is the eighth Mandarin-language studio album (seventeenth overall) by Chinese singer Faye Wong. There are 12 songs in total: ten in Mandarin and two in Cantonese. The lyrics of two Mandarin songs on the album were rewritten in Cantonese to cater for the Hong Kong market. A "Deluxe" version included a VCD with footage of Faye Wong's commercial for Head & Shoulders shampoo. Composition The album can be considered in three sections. The first five tracks deal with certain aspects of Buddhism, incorporating Motif (narrative), motifs from fairy tales, especially Cinderella. The next three are radio-friendly pop songs. The next two, "Farewell Firefly" and "Book of Laughter and Forgetting," are somewhat more complex musically; they are sung in Mandarin Chinese, Mandarin and are followed by alternate versions in Cantonese, "Firefly" and "Love Letters to Myself." Faye Wong
Faye Wong ( zh, 王菲; pinyin: ''Wáng Fēi''; born 8 August 1969) is a Chinese singer-songwriter and actress. Early in her career, she briefly used the stage name Shirley Wong (). Born in Beijing, she moved to British Hong Kong at the age of 18. She debuted with the Cantonese album ''Shirley Wong (album), Shirley Wong'' in 1989 and came to public attention by combining alternative pop, alternative music with mainstream C-pop, Chinese pop. Since the late 1990s, Wong has recorded mostly in her native Standard Chinese, Mandarin, with some songs recorded in languages such as English and Japanese. One of the biggest pop stars in the Chinese-speaking world, Wong has also gained followings in Japan and Southeast Asia. Mandarin ( ; zh, s=, t=, p=Guānhuà, l=Mandarin (bureaucrat), officials' speech) is the largest branch of the Sinitic languages. Mandarin varieties are spoken by 70 percent of all Chinese speakers over a large geographical area that stretches from Yunnan in the southwest to Xinjiang in the northwest and Heilongjiang in the northeast. Mandopop Albums
Mandopop or Mandapop refers to Mandarin popular music. The genre has its origin in the jazz-influenced popular music of 1930s Shanghai known as Shidaiqu; later influences came from Japanese enka, Hong Kong's Cantopop, Taiwan's Hokkien pop, and in particular the campus folk song folk movement of the 1970s. "Mandopop" may be used as a general term to describe popular songs performed in Mandarin. Though Mandopop predates Cantopop, the English term was coined around 1980 after "Cantopop" became a popular term for describing popular songs in Cantonese. An asura (Sanskrit and Pali: असुर) in Buddhism is a demigod or Titan (mythology), titan of the Desire realm, Kāmadhātu. They are said to live more pleasurable lives than humans, but are also in thrall to qualities such as wrath, pride, envy, and insincerity. Origins and etymology The Buddhist ''asuras'' have a few myths distinctive from the ''Asura (Hinduism), asuras'' of Hinduism, which are only found in Buddhist texts. Albert Leung Wai Man (, born 7 December 1961), better known by his pen name Lin Xi (), is a Hong Kong lyricist and writer.
