The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (), abbreviated FINAS, is the central government agency and governing body for the film industry of Malaysia. Its role is to regulate economic and commercial matters related to the film industry in Malaysia and responsible for film policies and programs to ensure the economic, cultural and educational development of the Malaysian film industry as well as providing funds to filmmakers and film studios. FINAS is similar to the Film Development Council of the Philippines in the Philippines and Motion Picture Association of America in the United States. The National Film Department of Malaysia (), abbreviated FNM, sometimes ''Jabatan Filem Negara'' (JFN) or informally the Malaysian Film Unit; was a Malaysian film production house and the government department under the Malaysian Ministry of Communications and Multimedia. Gerald Hans Isaac (born 20 August 1971) is a Malaysian actor, producer, and director. On 10 April 2019, he was appointed as the Chairman of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), and resigned after a year. In December 2021, Hans announced he was retiring from acting after more than two decades. Personal life Hans Isaac was born on 20 August 1971 in the Sultanah Aminah General Hospital in Johor Bahru to a Filipino mother, Carmina Anciano Isaac, and Indian- Kristang father, Edward Anthony Gerald Isaac from Malacca, a naval officer. The Film Censorship Board of Malaysia ( Malay: ''Lembaga Penapis Filem'') is a Malaysian government ministry that vets films. It is under the control of the Ministry of Home Affairs. History and legislative regulations LPF was established on 1 May 1954 in Singapore. Later, the Malaysian Film Censorship Board was established in 1966 to implement policies and censorship system for the whole of Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak. The Film Censorship Act 2002 is the act that is effective today. Any film that is to be screened in Malaysia must be certified by the Board.
