Dom Costa
Dominic J. Costa (born 1951) is a Democratic politician. He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and was the Chief of the Pittsburgh Police in 2006, and was a 27-year veteran of the force. He is a member of the Costa political family in Pittsburgh. Career Law enforcement He began his police career in suburban East McKeesport in 1977 and in 1979 became an officer with Pittsburgh. In 1981 he became a negotiator with the force eventually being promoted to Commander. He was injured by a shooter in a February 2002 standoff in the Homewood neighborhood, and briefly retired from the force. From January 2, 2006 – September 28, 2006 he was Pittsburgh Police Chief appointed by Pittsburgh mayor Bob O'Connor. He retired again from the PBP after then Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's administration took over City Hall and for a time became the Police Chief of suburban Penn Hills before going into elected office as a State representative. Earl Woodyard
Earl Daniel Woodyard Jr. (June 17, 1946 – April 6, 2015) was a longtime Pittsburgh Police leader, who was appointed acting Pittsburgh Police Chief from September 29, 2006 – October 31, 2006, after the death of mayor Bob O'Connor. Woodyard’s career with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police spans 33 years during which time, he worked his through the ranks from uniformed officer to Deputy Chief. Woodyard’s first assignment was as a uniformed officer assigned to beat patrol, squad car, wagon patrol, and drug and gang suppression on Pittsburgh’s North Side. In 1983, he was appointed plainclothes investigator, assigned to the Zone One Station, also in the North Side. In 1987, Woodyard, was promoted to sergeant, assigned to Zone Two in the Hill District. He was later transferred to Organized Crime, Narcotics, and Intelligence (ONI) responsible for supervision of 20 detectives on the highest crime shift. Robert McNeilly
Robert McNeilly was a long-serving Pittsburgh Police leader after joining the force in 1977, who served as Pittsburgh Police Chief from April 2, 1996 to January 2, 2006. He led the department through a U.S. Department of Justice consent decree in the mid-1990s. He was also active as a United States Coast Guard Reserves Chief Petty Officer from 1987 to 2011. McNeilly is also a United States Marine Corps veteran. Since retiring from the Pittsburgh Police he has served as chief in the suburban Elizabeth department, being sworn in on July 1, 2006. Before moving to Elizabeth a year later in 2007 he was a lifelong resident of the Brookline neighborhood in Pittsburgh. A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot.
