Digui
Digui is a village located in Ouaka Prefecture, Central African Republic. The village is strategic since it is situated at the crossroads to Bambari, Alindao, and Ngakobo. History The rebel group UPC used to control Digui and established a base in the village. The Portuguese contingent of MINUSCA clashed with UPC on 13 January 2019. MINUSCA and FACA forces captured Digui on 1 February 2020 from UPC. UPC rebels attacked FACA checkpoints in Digui on 22 May 2023 and casualties were reported. A clash between FACA and Wagner Group militia ensued in Digui on 9 January 2023, resulting in the death of 4 FACA soldiers and three Wagner militiamen. Economy The residents consist of breeders and farmers. They harvest cassava, peanuts, corn, and rice. Education Digui does not have any schools, and the students had to go to Yangouya. Ngakobo
Ngakobo is a town located in Ouaka Prefecture, Central African Republic. History Séléka captured Ngakobo on 30 December 2012. Afterward, they looted the SUCAF factory and office. Two people were killed. Ex-Séléka attacked Ngakobo on 2 July 2014. Three people were killed and one injured. The attack led the residents to flee to the bush. Ex-Séléka invaded Ngakobo on 27 August 2014 to kill Anti-balaka members, causing several people to die. Anti-balaka seized Ngakobo from ex-Séléka on 2 September 2014. A clash between the ex-Séléka and Anti-balaka occurred in the town on 8 September 2014. The attackers looted the traders' houses and killed nine civilians. Bambari
Bambari is a town in the Central African Republic, lying on the Ouaka River. It has a population of 41,356 (2003 census) and is the capital of Ouaka prefecture. Bambari is an important market town and home to Bambari Airport, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bambari. History Bambari was electrified in 1970. On 23 December 2012 Bambari was captured by rebels from Séléka coalition. On 24 June 2014 100 Anti-balaka fighters attacked Bambari. 46 people were killed and 28 wounded. In 2015 it was reported that Bambari was split with Anti-balaka controlling the part west of Oukana river and ex-Seleka controlling the eastern part of the city. Alindao
Alindao is a town and sub-prefecture located in the Central African Republic prefecture of Basse-Kotto. It lies at the junction of the National Route 2 and 22. Alindao had a population of 14,401 as of the 2003 census; and a calculated 2013 population of 15,213. The town is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Alindao. It has a small airport, Alindao Airport. A Catholic Mission was established at Alindao during French occupation under French Equatorial Africa. History In 1912, the leader of the Banda-Ngbugu people in Alindao, Aju, swore allegiance to the French colonisers. However, he led a local revolt in 1925 and was captured and executed the following year. In 1927, Norwegian missionary Oscar Cesar Berntz-Lanz established the Elim Mission at Boybinga in the Alindao subprefecture. Union For Peace In The Central African Republic
Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC, ) is a rebel group in the Central African Republic which controls southern parts of the country. History UPC was formed on 17 September 2014 by Ali Darassa from the ex-Séléka elements. Their initial headquarters was Bambari, however they were forced to retreat on 6 March 2017. On 10 January 2019, they launched a heavy attack on MINUSCA forces in Bambari vowing to recapture the city. They were repelled and in response Portuguese paratroopers raided their base in Bokolobo, seizing some weapons and destroying some checkpoints. On 17 December 2020, the UPC joined the Coalition of Patriots for Change. United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (also called MINUSCA, which is an initialism of its French name Mission multidimensionnelle intégrée des Nations unies pour la stabilisation en Centrafrique) is a UN peacekeeping mission, which started on April 10, 2014, to protect Central African Republic civilians under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. The Central African Armed Forces (; FACA) are the armed forces of the Central African Republic and have been barely functional since the outbreak of the Central African Republic Civil War, civil war in 2012. Today they are among the world's weakest armed forces, dependent on international support to provide security in the country. The Wagner Group (), officially known as PMC Wagner (, ), is a Russian state-funded private military company (PMC) controlled 2023 Wagner Group plane crash, until 2023 by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a former close ally of Russia's president Vladimir Putin, and since then by Pavel Prigozhin.
