Defao
Defao (31 December 1958 – 27 December 2021) was a Congolese singer-songwriter. He was a member of the prominent soukous groups Grand Zaiko Wawa and Choc Stars. He formed his band, Big Stars, in 1991. He has composed several hits, most of which were composed in the late 1980s, including "Amour Scolaire", "Famille Kikuta", and "Solange Lima." He died from complications of COVID-19 in Douala, Cameroon, on December 27, 2021, four days before his 63rd birthday. Early life and musical beginnings Defao was born as Lulendo Matumona on 31 December 1958, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo,. Matumona moved to Inkisi in 1976, where he remained until 1981 when guitarist Félix Manuaku Waku came to recruit him to join his group, Grand Zaiko Wawa. Choc Stars
The Choc Stars are a soukous band from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The band was founded in 1983 by Ben Nyamabo, and has since published over 50 albums. Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba (13 July 1956), known professionally as Koffi Olomidé, is a Congolese Soukus singer, dancer, producer, and composer. He has had several gold records in his career. He is the founder of the Quartier Latin International orchestra with many notable artists, including Fally Ipupa and Ferré Gola. Background Olomide was born on 13 July 1956 in Kisangani, DRC. His mother named him Koffi because he was born on Friday. He grew up in a middle-class family, without any musical background. During his youth, Olomide improvised by singing popular songs with his own lyrics and altered rhythms until a neighbor taught him how to play the guitar. Wuta Mayi
Gaspard Wuta Mayi, commonly known as Wuta Mayi, is a Congolese rumba and soukous vocalist and composer from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). From 1974 to 1982, he was a member of the band TPOK Jazz, led by Franco (François Luambo Makiadi), which dominated the Congolese music scene from the 1960s through the 1980s. M'bilia Bel (born January 10, 1959) is a Congolese rumba, rumba and world music singer from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She is known as the "Queen of Congolese and African Rumba". She rose to fame after first being discovered by Sam Mangwana, Sam Manguana and later by Tabu Ley Rochereau who helped her gain confidence, master her powerful soprano voice, and achieve acclaim as one of the best Congolese female singers.
