Choc Stars
The Choc Stars are a soukous band from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The band was founded in 1983 by Ben Nyamabo, and has since published over 50 albums. The apex of their success was in the 1980s, when guitarist and vocalist Bozi Boziana wrote some of their most appreciated hits, such as ''Sandu Kotti'', ''Alena'', ''Mbuta-Mutu'', and ''Retrouvailles a Paris''.Martin Sinnock, From Choc Stars to Big Stars '' aAfrica Sounds When Boziana left to create his own ensemble, three singers were hired to replace him ( Carlito Lassa, Dieka Debaba e Defao Matumona). OK Jazz, later renamed TPOK Jazz (short for ''Tout Puissant Orchestre Kinois de Jazz''), was a Congolese rumba band from the Democratic Republic of the Congo established in 1956 and fronted by Franco. The group disbanded in 1993, but reformed in 1996. Location The OK Jazz band was formed in 1956 in Léopoldville (now Kinshasa), in what was at the time the Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). At one time in the late 1970s and early 1980s the band grew to more than fifty members. Langa Langa Stars
Langa Langa Stars were a popular DR Congo soukous band in the 1980s. The band had the peculiarity of featuring as much as seven lead vocalists, nicknamed the "6 Patrons of Langa Langa Stars". Langa Langa Stars were founded in 1981 as a spin-off of Papa Wemba's band Viva La Musica, which in turn may be described as a spin-off of the seminal soukous band Zaiko Langa Langa; it can thus be classified in the so-called "Clan Langa Langa", a large set of soukous bands that are directly or indirectly derivative of Zaiko.
