MTN 8
The MTN 8 is a South African soccer single-elimination tournament, cup competition launched in 1972 for teams who finished in the top 8 positions of the league table of the country's preceding season of the top-flight league (currently the South African Premiership, Premiership). The winners receive South African Rand, R10 million and the competition's trophy, which is one of the three domestic trophies attainable by its competitors each soccer season, with the other two being the top-flight league title and the country's premier knock-out competition, the Nedbank Cup. The competition bears the name of its sponsor (commercial), title sponsor; it was known as the BP Top 8 from its inception until 2002, then as the South African Airways, SAA Supa 8 until 2007. 2024 MTN 8
The 2024 MTN 8 was the 50th edition of the South African soccer competition featuring the top 8-placed teams at the conclusion of the 2023–24 South African Premier Division, previous DStv Premiership season, and the 17th under its current sponsored name. The competition started on 3 August 2024. Prize money was increased to South African Rand, R10 million for the winners this season. Jomo Cosmos is a South African soccer club based in Johannesburg that plays in the ABC Motsepe League. The club is owned and coached by South African football legend Jomo Sono. At the end of the 2021–22 National First Division season, the club was relegated to the third tier of football in South Africa for the first time.
