1996 BP Top 8
The BP Top 8 1996 was the 25th edition of the competition, then known as the BP Top 8 for sponsorship reasons, featuring the top 8-placed teams at the conclusion of the National Soccer League season. It was won for the sixth time by Orlando Pirates, who defeated Qwa Qwa Stars in a replayed final, after the first game finished 1–1. The competition was not held again until 2000 after the newly-formed Premier Soccer League removed it from the calendar due to overcrowding. The MTN 8 is a South African soccer single-elimination tournament, cup competition launched in 1972 for teams who finished in the top 8 positions of the league table of the country's preceding season of the top-flight league (currently the South African Premiership, Premiership). The winners receive South African Rand, R10 million and the competition's trophy, which is one of the three domestic trophies attainable by its competitors each soccer season, with the other two being the top-flight league title and the country's premier knock-out competition, the Nedbank Cup. Mamelodi is a township (South Africa), township northeast of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa. Helman Nkosiyethu Mkhalele (born 20 October 1969) is a South African former soccer player who played as a midfielder. Club career He was the part of the Orlando Pirates squad that won the 1994 National Soccer League and 1995 African Cup of Champions Clubs. He also scored to help Pirates to victory in the replayed final of the 1996 BP Top 8.
