Cuttack City, was a constituency of the Odisha Legislative Assembly of the Cuttack district, Odisha state in India. It was established in 1951 and abolished in 2008. It was replaced and subsumed by the Barabati-Cuttack Assembly constituency Barabati-Cuttack is a Vidhan Sabha constituency of Cuttack district, Odisha, India. 2004 Odisha Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Orissa Legislative Assembly were held in April 2004 to elect members of the 147 constituencies in Orissa, India. The Bhartiya Janata Party and Biju Janata Dal fought election together as NDA. The National Democratic Alliance won the most seats and Naveen Patnaik was re-appointed as the Chief Minister of Orissa.The opposition Congress was headed by former CM Janaki Ballabh Pattnaik, who was unsuccessful. The number of constituencies was set as 147 by the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India. Parties and alliances Others Result Again this time, BJD & BJP fought togetherly as NDA. BJD won 61 seats, BJP won 32 seats. NDA seats = BJD + BJP = 61 + 32 = 93. (93>74 -- magic number) So again NDA formed govt. 2000 Odisha Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Orissa Legislative Assembly were held in February 2000 to elect members of the 147 constituencies in Orissa, India. The BJP and BJD fought election together as NDA. The National Democratic Alliance won the most seats and Naveen Pattanaik was appointed as the Chief Minister of Orissa. The number of constituencies was set as 147 by the recommendation of the Delimitation Commission of India. Parties and alliances Others Result Biju Janata Dal joined NDA (BJP's side). The BJD won 69 seats, BJP won 38 seats. Seats won by NDA = BJD + BJP = 69 + 38 = 107 (higher than 74 -- the magic number). Whereas Congress, which was in power earlier, won only 26 seats (not enough for forming govt), overthrowing Sri Hemananda Biswal from power. Samir Dey
Samir Dey (10 January 1957 – 18 November 2024) was an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Odisha who had served as minister of Higher Education in Naveen Patnaik cabinet from 2004 to 2009. Cuttack District
Cuttack district is one of the 30 districts of Odisha state in India. It is located in the coastal part of the state and its administrative headquarters are located in the city of Cuttack. As of 2011 Census, after Ganjam district, Ganjam, it is the second most populous district of Odisha, with a population of 2,624,470. The name is an anglicized form of ''Kataka'' or ''Katak'' meaning Fort – referring to the Barabati Fort. The district is bisected by the river Mahanadi and its numerous distributaries and occupies a large portion of the river's delta. It is bounded by the Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh and Khurda districts to the west while its southern and eastern boundaries touch Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Jajpur districts.
