Cloudlife
''Cloudlife'' (stylized as ''cLOUDLIFE'') is a collaborative EP by Jel, Main Attrakionz, and Zachg. It was released on Rad Reef in March 2012. The EP was named in homage to Clouddead. Critical reception David Reyneke of ''Potholes in My Blog'' described the EP as "a quick listen for any of you out there that are struggling to keep up with Main Attrakionz's already vast catalog." Philip Mlynar of MTV said, "It's a canny, cross-generational union, with Mondre M.A.N. and Squadda's raps meshing with beats by Jel and Zachg." Brandon Soderberg of '' Spin'' wrote, "All four of ''cLOUDLIFE''s songs are just as bizarre and inspired." Main Attrakionz
Main Attrakionz is an American hip hop duo from Oakland, California, composed of rappers Mondre M.A.N. (Damondre Grice) and Squadda B (Charles Glover). Career Grice and Glover met in the seventh grade when they were both kicked out of math class, and began recording raps together. The two have continued to collaborate and have become known as significant players in the "cloud rap" movement, which features "a splinter sound that's ethereal and often hooked around cascading synth lines and amorphous beats". On March 2, 2012, Main Attrakionz released '' Cloudlife'', a collaborative EP with Jel and Zachg. On October 22, 2012, the duo released their first album, '' Bossalinis & Fooliyones'', which was noted in '' Spin'' to have "nine-song run from 'On Tour' to 'Bury Me a Millionaire' is as impressive as anything on a rap record this year". Zachary Granger Moldof (born July 22, 1981), better known by his stage name Zachg, is an American hip hop artist based in Los Angeles, California. He is a founder of the lifestyle collective Rad Reef, which released the ''New No Wave'' compilation in 2013. He is one half of the design duo Twin Beast. He has collaborated with Main Attrakionz, Jel, Silky Johnson, Black Noise, BK Beats, Left Leberra, and Dizzy D, among others. Life and career Zachg, who is Jewish, is originally from Broward County, Florida and grew up in the Everglades. He attended University of Central Florida for advertising. He examined the roots of sampling in hip hop with his master's thesis at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Jeffrey James Logan (born May 7, 1978), better known by his stage name Jel, is an American hip hop producer and rapper. He is co-founder of the record label Anticon. He has been a member of Presage, Themselves, Subtle, and 13 & God. Biography Jel released his first solo album, ''10 Seconds'', on Mush Records in 2002. The album is titled after the limited sampling time of E-mu SP-1200. It features contributions from Dax Pierson, Odd Nosdam, Doseone, and Alias. His second solo album, ''Soft Money'', was released on Anticon in 2006. Cloud Rap
Cloud rap is a subgenre of Southern rap and trap music that has several sonic characteristics of lo-fi in its hazy, dreamlike and relaxed sound. Many music experts credit rapper Lil B and producer Clams Casino as the early pioneers of this style. The term "cloud rap" is related to its internet birth and its ethereal style. Origins Cloud rap initially came out of Atlanta, Houston, and Memphis during the late 2000s. The term "cloud rap" is popularly used in reference to lo-fi, hazy rap. Elements of cloud rap, like lo-fi and dreamy atmospheres, can be heard as early as 2001 with cLOUDDEAD's self-titled album. Later in 2006 more building blocks, such as hazy and relaxed sounds, can be found in Viper's second album, Ready...and Willing. Some have attributed the term to rapper Lil B. Clouddead
Clouddead (styled as cLOUDDEAD) was an American experimental hip hop group, consisting of Doseone (Adam Drucker), Why? (Yoni Wolf) and Odd Nosdam (David Madson). The group's name came from a nonsensical knock-knock joke Drucker's sister told him when she was five years old. Style Generally Drucker and Wolf provide the group's vocals while Madson produces the music. Occasionally Madson's vocals can be heard, while Drucker and Wolf provide music, especially for the group's second album. Clouddead's sound is notoriously hard to define, and although it is undoubtedly grounded in "traditional" hip-hop, influences as varied as electronica, psychedelic music and indie rock can be heard.
