Classic Rock (Westwood One)
Classic Rock (formerly The Classic Rock Experience prior to 2011) is a radio network syndicate by Westwood One. It draws an adult mainstream audience between the ages of 25 and 49 with classic rock music from artists such as Aerosmith, The Allman Brothers Band, The Beatles, Phil Collins, Deep Purple, The Eagles, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Queen, and The Rolling Stones. The DJ line-up during ABC ownership included Chaz Mixon, Michelle Michaels, Frank Welch, Jeff Davis, Debbie Douglas, Scott Manning, and Dave Bolt. As a Westwood One format, WGRF jock Carl Russo's show was carried overnights until his 2025 retirement. History The Classic Rock Experience was first aired in 1972 by Satellite Music Network (SMN) and has since then maintained its classic rock format to this day. Satellite Music Network was the first satellite delivered Radio network, network to provide complete live 24-hour-a-day music programming to radio stations, local stations, under several different formats. History Affiliate stations, mostly in small and medium Media market, markets, could operate their stations virtually unmanned with nothing more than its existing tape-based playback equipment, a computer and a satellite hookup offering high quality air talent that they could never afford. The concept was the presentation of live, carefully selected and rotated hit music, presented by experienced major market industry veterans over a satellite channel in real time. Though nationally distributed, the presentation was localized by the network's talent pushing a button sending a subaudible tone over the network that would trigger a tape machine at the receiving station. Journey is an American Rock music, rock band formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former members of Santana (band), Santana, the Steve Miller Band, and Frumious Bandersnatch. The band consists of Neal Schon on guitars and vocals (the last remaining original member); Jonathan Cain on keyboards, guitars and vocals; Deen Castronovo on drums and vocals; Arnel Pineda on lead vocals; Jason Derlatka on keyboards and vocals; and Todd Jensen on bass. "Don't Stop Believin" is a song by American rock band Journey. It was released in October 1981 as the second single from the group's seventh studio album, '' Escape'' (1981), released through Columbia Records. "Don't Stop Believin shares writing credits between the band's vocalist Steve Perry, guitarist Neal Schon, and keyboardist Jonathan Cain. It is a mid-tempo rock anthem and power ballad. At the dawn of the 1980s, Journey was becoming one of the most successful rock acts of the era. The band added Cain on keyboards before entering the studio to record ''Escape''. Cain had kept the song title from encouragement his father gave him as a struggling musician living on Los Angeles' Sunset Boulevard. Foghat are an English Rock music, rock band formed in London in 1971. The band is known for the use of electric slide guitar in its music. Their best known song is the 1975 hit "Slow Ride". The band has released 17 studio albums, including eight Music recording sales certification, gold albums and one platinum; along with one double platinum live album. Despite several line-up changes, the band continues to record and perform. "Slow Ride" is a song by the English rock band Foghat. It was the lead single from their fifth studio album, '' Fool for the City'' (1975), released on Bearsville Records. In 2009, it was named the 45th "Best Hard Rock" song of all time by VH1. There are five versions of the song. The original LP version from ''Fool for the City'' lasts 8 minutes and 14 seconds. The single version, found in several compilations, was truncated to 3:56 with a fade-out ending. James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942September 18, 1970) was an American singer-songwriter and musician. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time.
