Eugène Vieillard
Eugène Vieillard (1819–1896) was a French physician and botanist. Employed as a surgeon with the merchant navy, from 1855 to 1857 he collected plants in Tahiti with gardener-botanist Jean Armand Isidore Pancher. Afterwards, he spent a number of years conducting botanical investigations in New Caledonia, where he was a colleague to naturalist Émile Deplanche. Within this time period, he also collected ferns in New Zealand (1861) and visited the Cape of Good Hope and the island of Réunion. From 1871 to 1895, he was director of the botanical garden in Caen.JSTOR Global Plants

Odoardo Beccari
Odoardo Beccari (16 November 1843 – 25 October 1920) was an Italian botanist famous for his discoveries in Indonesia, New Guinea, and Australia. He has been called the greatest botanist to ever study Malesia. Life Youth and education (1843–1864) Odoardo Beccari was born in Florence as the third child of Giuseppe di Luigi Beccari and the first child of Antonietta Minucci. After he lost his mother in early infancy and his father in 1849, he was brought up by a maternal uncle Minuccio Minucci. From 1853–1861, he attended the prestigious secondary school Real Collegio in Lucca. Here, one of his teachers was abbot Ignazio Mezzetti (1821–1876), a passionate collector of botanical specimens, who inspired him to pursue botany and assemble a herbarium. He later named the genus Mezzettia in his honor. In August 1861, he commenced his studies at the University of Pisa. Here he quickly captured the attention of the naturalists Giuseppe Meneghini and Pietro Savi. Very u ...

Endemic Flora Of New Caledonia
Endemism is the state of a species being found only in a single defined geographic location, such as an island, state, nation, country or other defined zone; organisms that are indigenous to a place are not endemic to it if they are also found elsewhere. For example, the Cape sugarbird is found exclusively in southwestern South Africa and is therefore said to be ''endemic'' to that particular part of the world. An endemic species can also be referred to as an ''endemism'' or, in scientific literature, as an ''endemite''. Similarly, many species found in the Western ghats of India are examples of endemism. Endemism is an important concept in conservation biology for measuring biodiversity in a particular place and evaluating the risk of extinction for species. Endemism is also of interest in evolutionary biology, because it provides clues about how changes in the environment cause species to undergo range shifts (potentially expanding their range into a larger area or becomi ...

Arecaceae Genera
The Arecaceae () is a family of perennial, flowering plants in the monocot order Arecales. Their growth form can be climbers, shrubs, tree-like and stemless plants, all commonly known as palms. Those having a tree-like form are colloquially called palm trees. Currently, 181 genera with around 2,600 species are known, most of which are restricted to tropical and subtropical climates. Most palms are distinguished by their large, compound, evergreen leaves, known as fronds, arranged at the top of an unbranched stem, except for the Hyphaene genus, who has branched palms. However, palms exhibit an enormous diversity in physical characteristics and inhabit nearly every type of habitat within their range, from rainforests to deserts. Palms are among the best known and most extensively cultivated plant families. They have been important to humans throughout much of history, especially in regions like the Middle East and North Africa. A wide range of common products and foods are d ...

''Chambeyronia oliviformis'' is a species of flowering plant in the family Arecaceae. It is a palm tree endemic to New Caledonia. The species was first described as ''Kentia oliviformis'' by Adolphe-Théodore Brongniart and Jean Antoine Arthur Gris in 1873. The same year Brongniart described the genus ''Kentiopsis'' and moved the species there as ''Kentiopsis oliviformis''. In 2021 Donald R. Hodel and Craig F. Chambeyronia Magnifica
''Chambeyronia magnifica'' is a species of flowering plant in the palm family Arecaceae. It is a large, solitary, emergent palm found only in New Caledonia. It it native to northeastern Grande Terre, where it lives on Col d'Amos and the Pam Peninsula ridge. It grows in dense humid forest on soils derived from schist rocks from 480 to 550 metres elevation. The species has an estimated area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) of 24 km2. It is threatened by habitat loss from frequent fires on Col d'Amos and degradation of the forest by feral pigs. It is assessed as endangered in the IUCN Red List. It was first described as ''Mackeea magnifica'' in 1978 by Harold Emery Moore. In 1998 Jean-Christophe Pintaud and Donald Robert Hodel placed in genus ''Kentiopsis'' as ''Kentiopsis magnifica''. In 2021 Hodel and Craig Barrett synonymized ''Kentiopsis'' with genus ''Chambeyronia ''Chambeyronia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Arecaceae. It contains nine sp ...

Flowering Plant
Flowering plants are plants that bear flowers and fruits, and form the clade Angiospermae (). The term angiosperm is derived from the Ancient Greek, Greek words (; 'container, vessel') and (; 'seed'), meaning that the seeds are enclosed within a fruit. The group was formerly called Magnoliophyta. Angiosperms are by far the most diverse group of Embryophyte, land plants with 64 Order (biology), orders, 416 Family (biology), families, approximately 13,000 known Genus, genera and 300,000 known species. They include all forbs (flowering plants without a woody Plant stem, stem), grasses and grass-like plants, a vast majority of broad-leaved trees, shrubs and vines, and most aquatic plants. Angiosperms are distinguished from the other major seed plant clade, the gymnosperms, by having flowers, xylem consisting of vessel elements instead of tracheids, endosperm within their seeds, and fruits that completely envelop the seeds. The ancestors of flowering plants diverged from the commo ...
