The Catechetical Centre, Karachi is the organization responsible for catechesis in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi in Pakistan. Establishment The Catechetical Centre was established in 1973 with Sr. Katherine Prince FMM as its first director. Fr. Anjou Soares was the director of Karachi's Catechetical Centre till 1992. Emmanuel Neno has been director of the Catechetical Centre from 1992 to 2002. Catechesis
Catechesis (; from Greek: , "instruction by word of mouth", generally "instruction") is basic Christian religious education of children and adults, often from a catechism book. It started as education of converts to Christianity, but as the religion became institutionalized, catechesis was used for education of members who had been baptized as infants. Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Karachi
The Archdiocese of Karachi is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or archdiocese of the Catholic Church in India. It was erected on 20 May 1948 under as a then- suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Bombay. History The Augustinians were the first to start a mission in the village of Kolachi in the 17th century. They were followed by the Discalced Carmelites who worked in the area until 1672. Around 1842–1843, the Carmelites once again attended to the spiritual needs of the British troops. The Capuchin order served from 1852 and then the Jesuits from 1856 to 1934. On June 1, 1934, it was declared a Mission under the Franciscans. It was elevated as the Archdiocese of Karachi on 15 July 1950 when the priests of the Archdiocese took over the management from the Franciscans. Emmanuel Neno
Emmanuel Neno is a Pakistani Christian author and translator. Major work Along with Robert McCulloch he completed a new Urdu translation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in 2014. The Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization has approved the Urdu translation and authorised its publication. It took thirteen years to complete. The Pakistan Board for the National Language has praised the translation project for its contribution to Pakistani culture and the Urdu language. In October 2012, Parts 1 & 2 of the Urdu translation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church were presented to Rino Fisichella, President of the Pontifical Council for New Evangelization, by Bishop Sebastian Shaw from Pakistan and Robert McCulloch in Rome. The Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) is an association of episcopal conferences of Catholic Church in South, Southeast, East and Central Asia. The federation fosters solidarity and joint responsibility for the welfare of the Church and of society in the region. The conference includes sixteen (or nineteen) Bishops' Conferences from Bangladesh, East Timor, India (both the CBCI and the individual conferences of the Syro-Malabar, Syro-Malankara and Roman Rites), Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos-Cambodia, Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan (RoC), Thailand and Vietnam and collective Bishops' Conference of Central Asia. Associate members are from Hong Kong, Macau, Mongolia, Nepal, Novosibirsk (Russia). Holy Family Hospital, Karachi
Holy Family Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, was founded in 1948 by the Medical Mission Sisters, a Roman Catholic religious order for women based in Philadelphia, USA. This was at a time when very few health care facilities existed in Pakistan. The founder of the Medical Mission Sisters, Doctor Anna Dengel arrived in 1920 in Rawalpindi to work as a mission doctor at the 16-bed St. Catherine's Hospital. The hospital evolved into the Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi and continued to operate under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi until 1977. In that year the diocese was no longer able to bear the financial burden of running the hospital and handed it over to the Government of Punjab. The Medical Mission Sisters went to work and focus exclusively at the Holy Family Hospital, Karachi. Three of these Sisters worked together from 1967 to 2009 at the Hospital.
