Borgward was a car manufacturing company, based in Bremen, Germany, founded by Carl F. W. Borgward (1890–1963). It produced cars of four brands, which were sold to a diversified international customer base: Borgward, Hansa, Goliath and Lloyd. Borgward's Isabella was one of the most popular German premium models in the 1950s, while Lloyd's Alexander / Lloyd 600 model offered affordable mobility to many working-class motorists. The Borgward 1500 RS race car featured a very modern engine design with four-valve DOHC and fuel injection. Despite success in the ongoing German Wirtschaftswunder economy miracle, Carl Borgward was reckless regarding cash flow, and his group ceased operations in 1961, following controversial insolvency proceedings. Borgward Group AG was a Chinese-German automobile brand established in 2010 with headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. The company carried the name and logo of the former German brand Borgward. Design and engineering was located in Germany, but the cars were produced in China by Foton Motor. Borgward started its business with a range of conventional SUVs, with sales reaching approx. 75,000 units by January 2018. The firm had branches in China, Russia, India, Brazil and Mexico. The Borgward Isabella is an automobile which was manufactured by the Bremen based auto-manufacturer Carl F. W. Borgward GmbH from 1954 to 1962. Borgward 1500 RS
The Borgward 1500 RS was a racing sports car in the class with up to 1.5 liters displacement, which the Borgward, Carl F.W. Borgward G. mb H. Automobil- und Motoren-Werke presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main in 1951. Until 1958, nine cars of this model were built and continuously developed. The Borgward RS was a somewhat successful car, but despite good performance of its modern fuel injected 4-valve DOHC engine used from 1954 onwards, the chassis was often inferior to the Porsche 550 and Porsche 718, which had better driving characteristics. Borgward stopped racing cars in 1958, supplied 1500cc engines to Formula 2 which became Formula 1 in 1961 when the whole company surprisingly went out of business. Borgward P100
The Borgward P100 is a large four-door sedan first presented in September 1959 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and produced by the Bremen based auto-manufacturer Carl F. W. Borgward GmbH between January 1960 and July 1961. Design and engineering The design featured the ponton, three-box design pioneered by Borgward in 1949, but now filled out to the relatively angular corners, reminiscent of the style being popularised by Pininfarina with designs such as that of the Fiat 1800, the Peugeot 404 or the Austin Westminster. Like the Farina designs, the P100 featured small angular tailfins. The P100 followed the structural approach of the existing Isabella, incorporating an integral chassis. Hansa-Automobil Gesellschaft m.b.H was a German car brand established in 1905, which in 1914 was merged with ''Norddeutsche Automobil und Motoren AG'' (NAMAG) into Hansa-Lloyd-Werke A.G.. From 1929 to 1931 it was taken over by the Borgward group. Hansa was based in the Bremen suburb of Hastedt. History Founding The first cars were licence-built Kriéger electric vehicles, beginning in 1905. Petrol- engined models followed in 1908 with 3685 cc engines, but few were made. Belgian electrical engineer, Paul Mossay, was employed for four years as chief engineer, designing both engines and electric vehicles. The Blitzkarren (German ) was a cab-less tricycle freight cart based on a motorcycle. It was produced in 1924 as the first complete production vehicle manufactured by the ''Bremer Kühlerfabrik Borgward & Co. GmbH''. The company, located in Sebaldsbrück, a settlement in Hemelingen, Bremen, Germany previously produced radiators and fenders for Hansa-Lloyd. Between 1929 and 1931 Hansa-Lloyd was acquired by Carl Borgward and his co-investor Wilhelm Tecklenborg. Borgward also renamed his radiator manufacturing company to '' Goliath-Werke Borgward & Co. GmbH''. In 1924, responding to a designer complaining about the material transport for radiator production between the workshops by handcart, Borgward constructed this light truck. Goliath-Werke Borgward & Co. was a German car manufacturer started by Carl F. W. Borgward and Wilhelm Tecklenborg in 1928, and was part of the Borgward group. Goliath was based in Bremen and specialized in three-wheeler cars and trucks and medium-sized cars. Their vehicles were sold under the Goliath brand. Early history The first models were three-wheeler trucks derived from the motorcycle based ''Blitzkarren'', ''Goliath Rapid'', and ''Standard'' previously built by Borgward. In 1926 appeared the Goliath K1 four-wheeler freight truck with open cab, followed by the 1929 Goliath Express, and with closed driver cab the 1932 Goliath Atlas, also sold as Hansa-Lloyd Atlas.
