Alpha Rho Upsilon
Alpha Rho Upsilon ( in Greek, ARU in Latin/English; pronounced A-roo) was a local Fraternities and sororities, fraternity at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. It was established in 1946 and operated until the college closed all Greek letter organizations in 1990. History Alpha Rho Upsilon formed from the Thorndike Club, a dining club established in 1937 for non-fraternity students at Bowdoin College. In January 1946, under the leadership of the club's faculty advisor Ernst Christian Helmreich and Moulton Union manager Donovan D. Lancaster, the club petitioned the university to become a fraternity called Alpha Rho Upsilon (ARU). The university recognized ARU on December 12, 1946. Its first president was Charles G. Chason. Psycholology professor Norman L. Munn became the fraternity's first advisor. Alpha Rho Upsilon founding members were students who were World War II veterans. Arundel railway station serves the market town of Arundel in West Sussex. The station is on the eastern side of the town, about from the High Street, across the River Arun. Aquarium Rescue Unit
Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit was a jam band founded by Col. Bruce Hampton. The band gained popularity in the Atlanta club scene in the early 1990s and went on to tour with the first H.O.R.D.E. Tour. During their formative years, the band was composed of Bruce Hampton, Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Herring, Jeff Sipe, Matt Mundy, and Count M'Butu. Jeff Mosier and Charlie Williams were members of the band during the early years, but left to pursue other endeavors. American Railway Union
The American Railway Union (ARU) was briefly among the largest labor unions of its time and one of the first Industrial unionism, industrial unions in the United States. Launched at a meeting held in Chicago in February 1893, the ARU won an early victory in a Strike action, strike on the Great Northern Railway (U.S.), Great Northern Railroad in the summer of 1894. This successful strike was followed by the bitter Pullman Strike, 1894 Pullman Strike in which government troops and the power of the judiciary were enlisted against the ARU, ending with the jailing of the union's leadership for six months in 1895 and effectively crushing the organization. Peep Aru (born 20 April 1953 in Abja-Paluoja) is an Estonian politician. He was a member of X, XI and XII Riigikogu and is the former Minister of Regional Affairs of Estonia. Krista Aru
Krista Aru (1 August 1958 – 25 February 2025) was an Estonian historian of journalism, museology, museologist, and politician. She was a member of XIII Riigikogu. Life and career In 1981, she graduated from Tartu University in journalism. In 2010, she finished her doctoral studies in Tallinn University. From 1995 to 2005 she was the director of Estonian Literary Museum. From 2006 to 2012 she was the director of Estonian National Museum. She was an unaffiliated member of the Estonian Free Party. Ines Aru
Ines Aru (born Ines Parker; 1 July 1939) is an Estonians, Estonian stage, radio, voice, television, and film actress whose career began in the early 1960s. Early life and education Ines Aru was born Ines Parker in Tallinn to Martin Johannes Parker and Leena Parker (''née'' Laid). Both of her parents were communism, communist activists who had been incarcerated by Estonian authorities in the early 1920s during the Trial of the 149 for their political activity and released in 1938, the year prior to her birth. Following the German occupation of Estonia during World War II in July 1941, she was evacuated to Samara Oblast in the Ural Mountains of Russia with her mother and grandmother. Her father remained in Tallinn and planned to join them shortly thereafter. In August 1941, he boarded a ship at the Port of Tallinn that struck a mine and was killed.
