Amour (Stockhausen)
''Amour'' is a cycle of five pieces for clarinet by Karlheinz Stockhausen, composed in 1974–76. The composer thought of each piece as a gift for a close friend. The cycle is given the number 44 in Stockhausen's catalogue of works. Ngor Beach
Ngor or Ngor Éwam Chöden (, ) is the name of a monastery in the Ü-Tsang province of Tibet about southwest of Shigatse and is the Sakya (Tibetan Buddhist school), Sakya school's second most important gompa. It is the main temple of the large Ngor school of Vajrayana Buddhism, which represents eighty-five percent of the Sakya school. History The origins of the Ngor school go back to Ngorchen Kunga Sangpo (also Kunga Zangpo or Kun dga 'bzang po, ) (1382-1444 CE), who was born and educated at Sakya and founded this monastery in 1429. It was renowned for its rich library of Sanskrit texts and magnificent 15th-century Newar-derived paintings. Mary Bauermeister
Mary Hildegard Ruth Bauermeister (7 September 1934 – 2 March 2023) was a German artist who worked in sculpture, drawing, installation, performance, and music. Influenced by Fluxus artists and Nouveau Réalisme, her work addresses esoteric issues of how information is transferable through society. "I only followed an inner drive to express what was not yet there, in reality or thought", she said of her practice. "To make art was more a finding, searching process than a knowing." Beginning in the 1970s, her work concentrated on the themes surrounding New Age spirituality, specifically geomancy, the divine interpretation of lines on the ground. 20th-century classical music is Western art music that was written between the years 1901 and 2000, inclusive. Musical style diverged during the 20th century as it never had previously, so this century was without a dominant style. Modernism, impressionism, and post-romanticism can all be traced to the decades before the turn of the 20th century, but can be included because they evolved beyond the musical boundaries of the 19th-century styles that were part of the earlier common practice period. Neoclassicism and expressionism came mostly after 1900. Robin John Maconie (born 22 October 1942) is a New Zealand composer, pianist, and writer. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Maconie studied with Frederick Page and Roger Savage at the Victoria University of Wellington, receiving a Master of Arts in the History and Literature of Music in 1964. He studied analysis with Olivier Messiaen in 1963–64 at the Paris Conservatoire, and in 1964–65 studied composition for film and radio under Bernd Alois Zimmermann, and electronic music under Herbert Eimert at the Cologne Conservatory. Markus Stockhausen (born 2 May 1957) is a German trumpeter and composer. His recordings and performances have typically alternated between jazz and chamber or opera music, the latter often in collaboration with his father, composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. Biography Born in Cologne, West Germany, he is the son of composer Karlheinz Stockhausen and the pianist and pedagogue Doris Stockhausen. Doris Gertrud Johanna Stockhausen (; 1924 – 20 June 2023) was the early muse and first wife of Karlheinz Stockhausen, who dedicated several compositions to her, beginning in 1950 with ''Chöre für Doris'' before they were married. After they separated she taught piano. Life Doris Gertrud Johanna Andreae was born in Hamburg, the daughter of shipbuilder Max Andreae (1887–1973) and his wife Emmi Alwine, née Blohm (1890–1931). She studied piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, Musikhochschule Köln, where she met Karlheinz Stockhausen, who also studied there. They were engaged in August 1951. Doris was raised Protestant, but converted to Roman Catholicism to prepare for her wedding. ''Licht'' (Light), subtitled "Die sieben Tage der Woche" (The Seven Days of the Week), is a cycle of seven operas composed by Karlheinz Stockhausen between 1977 and 2003. The composer described the work as an "eternal spiral" because "there is neither end nor beginning to the week." ''Licht'' consists of 29 hours of music. Origin The ''Licht'' opera project, originally titled ''Hikari'' (光 , Japanese for "light"), originated with a piece for dancers and Gagaku orchestra commissioned by the National Theatre in Tokyo. Titled ''Der Jahreslauf'' (The Course of the Years), this piece became the first act of ''Dienstag''.
