Afro-dite
Afro-dite is a Swedish pop group made up of three pop singers. The group consists of Blossom Tainton-Lindquist, Gladys del Pilar, and Kayo Shekoni. The name is a play on words implying they are beautiful as Greek goddess Aphrodite and black. *Blossom has already been in showbusiness for a long time. She sings and dances, played in several musicals and even hosted TV-shows on Swedish television. *Gladys, born in Ecuador, came to Sweden when she was only 7 years old. She worked with Dr. Alban and Denniz Pop but her final breakthrough was when she appeared in ''ABBA – the true story''. *Kayo is another multitalented woman. She is not only a singer, but also an actress, TV-show host and model. In the eighties she sang with the pop group Freestyle and in the nineties she fronted the Eurodance project Le Click. Never Let It Go
"Never Let It Go" is a 2002 song written by Marcos Ubeda and recorded by Swedish group Afro-dite. The song won Melodifestivalen 2002 and was the entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2002, where it finished 8th out of 24 competing entries. Melodifestivalen and the Eurovision Song Contest "Never Let It Go" participated in the second heat of the 2002 Melodifestivalen which was held on 26 January 2002 at the Himmelstalundshallen indoor arena in Norrköping. The song was performed seventh of the eight competing entries and directly qualified to the contest final as the song which received the most telephone votes. On 1 March, during the final held at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Afro-dite were the first of the ten competing acts to perform, and "Never Let It Go" won the contest with 248 points, receiving the highest number of votes from the regional juries and the public vote. Gladys Del Pilar
Eva Gladys del Pilar Werner (born 11 October 1967) is an Ecuadorian-born Swedish singer and dancer. She is best known for being a member of the pop group Afro-dite, with which she represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002. Career Gladys mother noticed Gladys had an interest in music and made sure she attended a local music school. She was asked to provide back-up vocals for Big Deal, a popular local rock band. Gladys and the sound engineer at ''Big Deal's'' recording studio formed the house music group ''Real Power''. They soon became associated with the Nordik beat scene and signed to SweMix Records. ‘'Real Power'’ released the single "Trust" which received plenty of radio play. She provided back-up vocals for many Nordik beat/SweMix acts such as Kayo and DJ's. Kayo Shekoni
Kayode Maria Söderberg Shekoni (born 17 April 1964) is a Swedish singer and actress. Career Kayo started out as a singer in the 1980s with Swedish synth-pop band Freestyle. Kayo left the group with the release of the fourth single Vill ha dej. She then worked as a backup singer and dancer for various Swedish artists such as The Creeps, NASA and Anders Glenmark. She is a classically trained ballet dancer and performed professionally for many years. In 1990 she became part of the Nordik beat scene and released a self-titled club-soul influenced album on The SweMix Label. The music was mostly new jack swing but some tracks were reggae and house and featured hip hop influences. It was produced by label co-founder Stonebridge with Christian Falk and Alexander Bard (from Army of lovers). She released 4 hit singles of the album. The Eurovision Song Contest 2002 was the 47th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Tallinn, Estonia, following the country's victory at the with the song Everybody (Tanel Padar and Dave Benton song), "Everybody" by Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and Soul Militia, 2XL. Blossom Tainton-Lindquist
Blossom Alexandra Liliana Tainton-Lindquist (born 29 June 1962 in Stockholm) is a Swedish singer, dancer, publisher, fitness coach and personal trainer. Her father, Graham Tainton, is a choreographer. Tainton danced and sang at an early age. She attended the Adolf Fredrik's Music School in Stockholm. She featured in musicals and had a very short career as a solo artist. In 2002 she represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest as a member of Afro-dite with the song " Never Let It Go", and finished 8th. The group released an album, and the single "Never Let It Go" stayed in the Swedish chart for 17 weeks, peaking at No. 1. Fame was a Swedish musical duo consisting of Jessica Andersson (born 27 October 1973 in Stockholm) and Magnus Bäcklund (born 16 November 1965 in Kristinehamn, Värmland County). They met each other at the televised arts school and contest ''Fame Factory'', which aired in autumn 2002. Bäcklund was the overall winner, while Andersson dropped out to give birth to her son Liam. Bäcklund also has two young twin daughters at home. Andersson is a former photo model and Bäcklund is a commercial pilot. Melodifestivalen In 2003, Fame won the favour of the Swedish public and the jury with the song " Give Me Your Love" in a landslide victory in Melodifestivalen 2003 at the Stockholm Globe Arena. Le Click was a German Eurodance duo. The duo consisted of Swedish/Nigerian singer Kayo Shekoni and rapper/singer Robert Haynes. Career Their U.S. chart debut was in 1995 with "Tonight Is the Night" (which featured La Bouche's Melanie Thornton on vocals and was included on the double platinum-selling U.S. edition of La Bouche's debut album ''Sweet Dreams'').
