4th Engineer Regiment (Italy)
The 4th Engineer Regiment ( it, 4° Reggimento Genio Guastatori) is a military engineer regiment of the Italian Army based in Palermo in Sicily. Today the regiment is the engineer unit of the Mechanized Brigade "Aosta". History On 1 October 1922 the 3rd Army Corps Engineer Grouping was formed in Verona, which received the Sappers Battalion and the Telegraphers Battalion of the V Army Corps, and a miners company from the disbanded Miners Engineer Regiment. The grouping consisted of a command, a sappers-miners battalion, a telegraphers battalion, a photo-electricians company, three dovecotes (in Verona, Trento, and Bolzano), and a depot. On 1 November 1926 the grouping was renamed 4th Engineer Regiment. In February 1928 the regiment provided a telegraphers company and the dovecote in Treviso for the formation of the 11th Engineer Regiment. The 5th Engineer Regiment ( it, 5° Reggimento Genio Guastatori) is a military engineer regiment of the Italian Army based in Macomer in Sardinia. Today the regiment is the engineer unit of the Mechanized Brigade "Sassari". History On 1 November 1895 the 5th Engineer Regiment (Miners) was formed in Rivoli with personnel from the 1st Engineer Regiment, 2nd Engineer Regiment, and 3rd Engineer Regiment. The regiment consisted of a staff, four brigades, a train company, and a depot. In 1896 the regiment moved to Turin. In 1910 the brigades were renamed battalions. During the Italo-Turkish War of 1911-12 the regiment's 7th, 8th, and 9th companies were deployed to Libya. Wireless Telegraphy
Wireless telegraphy or radiotelegraphy is transmission of text messages by radio waves, analogous to electrical telegraphy using cables. Before about 1910, the term ''wireless telegraphy'' was also used for other experimental technologies for transmitting telegraph signals without wires. In radiotelegraphy, information is transmitted by pulses of radio waves of two different lengths called "dots" and "dashes", which spell out text messages, usually in Morse code. 2nd Alpine Signal Regiment
The 2nd Alpine Signal Regiment ( it, 2° Reggimento Trasmissioni Alpino) is a deployable signals regiment of the Italian Army based in Bolzano in South Tyrol that specializes in mountain warfare. Since 1951 it has been assigned of the 4th Alpine Army Corps and therefore a strong association with the army's mountain infantry corps, the Alpini, with whom the regiment shares the distinctive Cappello Alpino. 11th Engineer Regiment (Italy)
The 11th Engineer Regiment ( it, 11° Reggimento Genio Guastatori) is a military engineer regiment of the Italian Army based in Foggia in Apulia. The 11th Engineer Regiment was formed in 1928. During World War II the regiment formed engineer battalions and smaller units for deploying divisions. The regiment was disbanded by invading German forces after the announcement of the Armistice of Cassibile on 8 September 1943. In 1958 the Engineer Battalion "Ariete" was formed and assigned to the Armored Division "Ariete". In 1975 the battalion was named for the Livenza river and received the number 132nd, which had been used by the 132nd Engineer Company that served with the 132nd Armored Division "Ariete" during the Western Desert Campaign of World War II.
