11th Engineer Regiment (Italy)
The 11th Engineer Regiment ( it, 11° Reggimento Genio Guastatori) is a military engineer regiment of the Italian Army based in Foggia in Apulia. The 11th Engineer Regiment was formed in 1928. During World War II the regiment formed engineer battalions and smaller units for deploying divisions. The regiment was disbanded by invading German forces after the announcement of the Armistice of Cassibile on 8 September 1943. In 1958 the Engineer Battalion "Ariete" was formed and assigned to the Armored Division "Ariete". In 1975 the battalion was named for the Livenza river and received the number 132nd, which had been used by the 132nd Engineer Company that served with the 132nd Armored Division "Ariete" during the Western Desert Campaign of World War II. With the name and number the battalion was also assigned the flag and traditions of the 11th Engineer Regiment. 2nd Miners Regiment
The 2nd Engineer Regiment ( it, 2° Reggimento Genio Guastatori) is a military engineer regiment of the Italian Army based in Trento in Trentino. Founded in 1860 it is currently the oldest engineer regiment of the Italian Army. Since 1954 it has been part of the 4th Alpine Army Corps and therefore has a strong association with the army's mountain infantry corps, the Alpini, with which the regiment shares the distinctive ''Cappello Alpino''. 5th Army Corps (Italy)
The V Army Corps was one of three corps the Italian Army fielded during the Cold War. Based in the regions of Veneto and Friuli-Venezia-Giulia the corps was the army's main combat force. The 5th Army Corps was arrayed close to the Yugoslavian border and tasked with meeting any Warsaw Pact forces that crossed the border. On the left flank of the corps the 4th Alpine Army Corps was tasked with blocking the Alpine passes and in the rear of the corps the 3rd Army Corps served as operational reserve. After the end of the Cold War the corps was reduced in size and on 1 October 1997 it became the 1st Defence Forces Command (COMFOD 1°).
