10th Engineer Regiment (Italy)
The 10th Engineer Regiment ( it, 10° Reggimento Genio Guastatori) is a military engineer regiment of the Italian Army based in Cremona in Lombardy. Today the regiment is the engineer unit of the 132nd Armored Brigade "Ariete". The 10th Engineer Regiment was formed in 1926. During the Second Italo-Ethiopian War and during World War II the regiment formed engineer battalions and smaller units for deploying divisions. The regiment was disbanded by invading German forces after the announcement of the Armistice of Cassibile on 8 September 1943. In 1953 the III Army Corps Engineer Battalion was formed and assigned to the III Army Corps. In 1975 the battalion was named for the Lario river and assigned the flag and traditions of the 10th Engineer Regiment. Armistice Of Cassibile
The Armistice of Cassibile was an armistice signed on 3 September 1943 and made public on 8 September between the Kingdom of Italy and the Allies during World War II. It was signed by Major General Walter Bedell Smith for the Allies and Brigade General Giuseppe Castellano for Italy at a conference of generals from both sides in an Allied military camp at Cassibile, in Sicily, which had recently been occupied by the Allies. The armistice was approved by both the Italian King Victor Emmanuel III and Marshal Badoglio, the Prime Minister of Italy at the time. Germany moved rapidly by freeing Benito Mussolini (12 September) and attacking Italian forces in Italy (8–19 September), southern France and the Balkans. Wireless Telegraphy
Wireless telegraphy or radiotelegraphy is transmission of text messages by radio waves, analogous to electrical telegraphy using cables. Before about 1910, the term ''wireless telegraphy'' was also used for other experimental technologies for transmitting telegraph signals without wires. The 11th Engineer Regiment ( it, 11° Reggimento Genio Guastatori) is a military engineer regiment of the Italian Army based in Foggia in Apulia. The 11th Engineer Regiment was formed in 1928. During World War II the regiment formed engineer battalions and smaller units for deploying divisions. The regiment was disbanded by invading German forces after the announcement of the Armistice of Cassibile on 8 September 1943. In 1958 the Engineer Battalion "Ariete" was formed and assigned to the Armored Division "Ariete". In 1975 the battalion was named for the Livenza river and received the number 132nd, which had been used by the 132nd Engineer Company that served with the 132nd Armored Division "Ariete" during the Western Desert Campaign of World War II. Regimental Depot
The regimental depot of a regiment is its home base for recruiting and training. It is also where soldiers and officers awaiting discharge or postings are based and where injured soldiers return to full fitness after discharge from hospital before returning to full duty. The Italian X Army Corps was a formation of the Italian army in World War II. History The Corps fought in Northern Africa and took part in the Western Desert Campaign until it was destroyed in the Second Battle of El Alamein in November 1942.
