2024 Riau Gubernatorial Election
The 2024 Riau gubernatorial election was held on 27 November 2024 as part of 2024 Indonesian local elections, nationwide local elections to elect the governor of Riau for a five-year term. The previous election was held in 2018. The election was won by former House of Representatives (Indonesia), House of Representatives member Abdul Wahid (governor), Abdul Wahid of the National Awakening Party (PKB). Electoral system The election, like other local elections in 2024, follow the First-past-the-post voting, first-past-the-post system where the candidate with the most votes wins the election, even if they do not win a majority. It is possible for a candidate to run Uncontested election, uncontested, in which case the candidate is still required to win a majority of votes "against" an "None of the above, empty box" option. Advanced Indonesia Coalition

The NasDem Party () or the National Democratic Party () is a political party in Indonesia. It is partly funded by media baron Surya Paloh who founded the similarly named organization, National Democrats (). Edy Nasution
Edy Nasution (born 29 May 1961) is an Indonesian politician and former military officer. He briefly served as the governor of Riau between November 2023 and February 2024, replacing the previous governor Syamsuar who had resigned. He was previously Syamsuar's deputy between 2019 and 2023. He served in the Indonesian Army for over 30 years prior to entering politics, and reached the rank of brigadier general. Early life Edy Nasution was born on 29 May 1961 in Bengkalis Regency, Riau, to Achmad Natar Nasution and Chairani Jadin. He enrolled at the Indonesian Military Academy, and graduated in 1984.
