2024 J Awards
The 2024 J Awards are the 20th annual J Awards, established by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's youth-focused radio station Triple J. It awards the best albums, artists, live acts and music videos in the Australian music scene, as determined by the network's teams. The eligibility period was for releases between November 2023 and October 2024. Nominees were announced on 1 November 2024, the first day of Ausmusic Month. The awards were presented on 14 November. Triple J
Triple J is an Australian government-funded national radio station founded in 1975 as a division of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). It aims to appeal to young listeners of alternative music, and plays far more Australian content than commercial networks. The station was set up under the Gough Whitlam government, wanting to extend the appeal of the ABC to young Australians. Initially broadcasting as 2JJ or Double Jay from 19 January 1975, it stood apart from commercial stations with its lack of private advertising and its fringe music programming. Following a transition to FM in 1981, the station rebranded as 2JJJ or Triple J as it expanded regionally throughout the 1990s. Two spin-off digital stations were launched in the early 2010s: Double J aims to appeal to more mature audiences, and Triple J Unearthed plays only unsigned, local musicians. Pratts & Pain
''Pratts & Pain'' is the debut studio album by Australian guitar-pop duo Royel Otis. It was released on 16 February 2024 via Ourness, and debuted at number 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The album's release was supported by five singles, starting with "Adored" and "Fried Rice", as well as tour dates around Australia, North America and Europe. It received positive acclaim from critics. An extended edition, with two bonus tracks, was released digitally in May 2024. A 17-track deluxe edition, titled ''It Ain't Over Til It Ends Edition'' was released on 4 October 2024. Emily Wurramara
Emily Wurramara is an Indigenous Australian singer and songwriter. At the 2024 ARIA Music Awards, she won the ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album, making her the first Indigenous woman to ever win in this category. Early life Emily Wurramara moved between Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island (Milyakburra), two islands in the Gulf of Carpentaria off the coast of the Northern Territory, until she was six years old. Her father is of Filipino, Chinese, and Spanish descent, who grew up on the Philippine island of Negros. Her mother is a Warninidlyakwa/Greek/Italian/Turkish woman who grew up on the two islands. What So Not is an electronic music project by Australian record producer Emoh Instead (stage name of Christopher John Emerson). What So Not has toured the world, playing in various festivals, including Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Pukkelpop, Ultra Music Festival and Lollapalooza. Teenage Dads
Teenage Dads are an Australian indie rock band formed in the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria in 2015. The group consists of Jordan Finlay (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Connor McLaughlin (guitar), Vincent Kinna (drums) and Angus Christie (bass guitar). Since 2021, they have been signed to Chugg. Confidence Man (band)
Confidence Man are an Australian electro pop band formed in 2016 in Brisbane, Queensland. They released their debut album, '' Confident Music for Confident People,'' in 2018. Angie McMahon is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician from Melbourne, Victoria. She released her debut studio album ''Salt (Angie McMahon album), Salt'' in 2019.
