2024 Aceh Gubernatorial Election
The 2024 Acehnese gubernatorial election was held on 27 November 2024 as part of 2024 Indonesian local elections, nationwide local elections to elect the List of governors of Aceh, governor of Aceh for a five-year term. The previous election was held in 2017. The election was won by former Vice Governor Muzakir Manaf of the Aceh Party with 53% of the vote. His sole opponent, of NasDem Party, NasDem, received 46%. Electoral system The election, like other local elections in 2024, follow the First-past-the-post voting, first-past-the-post system where the candidate with the most votes wins the election, even if they do not win a majority. It is possible for a candidate to run Uncontested election, uncontested, in which case the candidate is still required to win a majority of votes "against" an "None of the above, empty box" option. The Corruption Eradication Commission (), abbreviated as KPK, is an Indonesian government agency established to prevent and fight corruption in the country. History Background Anti-corruption efforts began in Indonesia in the 1950s. Following strong criticism of corruption at the beginning of the New Order regime in the late 1960s a ''Commission of Four'' was appointed by president Suharto in 1970. The report of the commission noted that corruption was "rampant" but none of the cases it said were in need of urgent action were followed up on. The Great Indonesia Movement Party (), better known as the Gerindra Party, is a nationalist, right-wing populist political party in Indonesia. Since 2014, it has been the third-largest party in the House of Representatives (DPR), having won 86 seats in the latest election. It currently controls the presidency. The Regional Representative Council (, DPD; alternatively translatable as the House of Regions or the House of Regional Representatives or the Senate of Indonesia), is one of two parliamentary chambers in Indonesia. Together with the House of Representatives (DPR), it makes up the Indonesian national legislative body, the ''Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat'' (MPR).
