The 2023 Supercopa Paraguay was the planned third edition of the Supercopa Paraguay, Paraguay's football super cup. It was supposed to feature the 2023 Primera División best-ranked champions in the aggregate table against the 2023 Copa Paraguay champions, opening the 2024 season of Paraguayan football. Teams The Supercopa Paraguay is contested by two teams: the champions of the Copa Paraguay and the Primera División (Apertura or Clausura) champions with the best record in the aggregate table of the season. As Libertad won both Primera División Apertura and Clausura tournaments, it was decided that if they also won the Copa Paraguay, the Supercopa Paraguay match would be cancelled and they would be awarded the title automatically. Supercopa Paraguay
The Supercopa Paraguay (''Paraguay Supercup'') is an annual one-match football official competition in Paraguay organised by the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) which is played by the Primera División champions with the best record in the season's aggregate table and the Copa Paraguay champions, starting from 2021. This competition, created in October 2019, serves as the season's closing event and is scheduled to be played in December each year, one week after the end of the league season. The competition was originally scheduled to be played for the first time in 2020, but its implementation had to be postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of that year's Copa Paraguay. Club Libertad is a Paraguayan professional football club based in Asunción that currently plays in the Paraguayan Primera División. The 2022 Supercopa Paraguay was the second edition of the Supercopa Paraguay, Paraguay's football super cup. It was held on 25 January 2023 between the 2022 Primera División best-ranked champions in the aggregate table Olimpia and the 2022 Copa Paraguay champions Sportivo Ameliano at Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asunción. The 2023 Primera División season (officially the Copa de Primera Tigo – Ueno 2023 for sponsorship reasons) was the 89th season of the Paraguayan Primera División, the top-flight professional football league in Paraguay. The season consisted of two tournaments, Apertura and Clausura, and it began on 27 January and ended on 1 December 2023. The fixtures for the season were announced on 14 November 2022. 2023 Copa Paraguay
The 2023 Copa Paraguay was the fifth edition of the Copa Paraguay, Paraguay's domestic football cup competition organized by the Paraguayan Football Association (APF). The competition began on 18 April and ended on 2 December 2023, with the winners qualifying for the 2023 Supercopa Paraguay against the Primera División champions with better record in the aggregate table. Libertad were the champions, claiming their second Copa Paraguay title by beating Sportivo Trinidense on penalty kicks after a 1–1 draw in the final. As winners, Libertad were entitled to earn a berth into the 2024 Copa Libertadores, however since both finalists qualified for that competition via league performance, that berth was awarded to the third-placed team, Nacional. The Copa Paraguay is a knockout football competition in men's domestic Paraguayan football, starting in 2018 and succeeding the defunct Torneo República. Sportivo Trinidense is a Paraguayan football club based in the barrio of Santísima Trinidad, in Asunción. The club was founded on 11 August 1935.
