2019–20 Iraq FA Cup
The 2019–20 Iraq FA Cup was the 30th edition of the Iraqi knockout football cup as a clubs-only competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football, featuring a total of 20 teams from the Iraqi Premier League and 48 teams from the Iraqi First Division League and Iraqi Second Division League. The tournament started on 12 September 2019, but was cancelled during the Round of 32 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Format Participation The cup started with the first round, consisting of 48 teams from the Iraqi First Division League and Iraqi Second Division League, followed by the second round, consisting of the 24 qualified teams. The 20 Iraqi Premier League clubs joined the 12 qualified teams to form the Round of 32. Cards If a player received a second yellow card, they were banned from the next cup match. Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). Al-Najaf FC
Al-Najaf Sports Club ( ar, نادي النجف الرياضي) is an Iraqi professional football club based in Najaf. They are members of the Iraqi Premier League. Al-Najaf has competed in the 2007 AFC Champions League. History In 1960, the city of Najaf began an active movement to establish a sports club after the athletes then felt the need of the city to a sports club that absorbed the energies of young people and their creations which are almost lost in the amateur leagues. Some of the dignitaries of the city were contacted for this purpose. The request was submitted to the Ministry of the Interior, which was responsible for the authorisation of sports clubs in Iraq at that time. The name of Al Ghiri Sports Club was proposed for this institution. Zakho FC
Zakho Sport Club, also spelled as Zaxo Sport Club ( ku-2, یانا زاخو یا وهرزشی / ''Yana Zaxo ya Werzişî'') is a sports club based in Zakho, Iraqi Kurdistan. Zakho SC's biggest rivals are also their neighbours Duhok SC, with whom they contest the Bahdinan Derby. History Football in Zakho was played unofficially from the early 1920s with many local amateur games as well as school competitions regularly being held in Zakho or nearby districts. Naft Maysan SC (also known as Naft Missan) ( ar, نادي نفط ميسان, lit=Maysan's Oil) is an Iraqi professional football club based in Amarah, Maysan that competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top flight of football in Iraq. History Naft Maysan Sports Club was founded in 2003 by the Ministry of Oil. In 2009–10 season, the club was playing in the Iraqi Premier League until it relegated to Iraq Division One in the 2011 season. But the team returned to play in the Iraqi Premier League after winning the runner-up in the 2012–13 Iraq Division One where it remains. Naft Al-Wasat Sports Club ( ar, نادي نفط الوسط الرياضي, lit=''Midland Oil'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Najaf, Iraq. Its professional football team plays in the Iraqi Premier League, the top tier of Iraqi football. The club's home stadium is An-Najaf Stadium. Naft Al-Basra SC ( ar, نادي نفط البصرة الرياضي, lit=''Basra Oil Sport Club'') is a football club based in Al-Tamimia District, Basra, Iraq, that plays in Iraqi Premier League. Erbil SC
Erbil Sports Club ( ar, نادي أربيل الرياضي, ) is a sports club based in the city of Erbil, Kurdistan Region that plays in the Iraqi Premier League, the first-tier of Iraqi football. The club is also known as "Yaney Hewlêr", the Kurdish name for Erbil. For the first time in its history, Erbil became champions of the Iraqi Premier League after beating Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (1–0) in the final game on Friday, 6 July 2007.
